read the comments. i would never download things like this from unfamiliar websites that didn't have comments.

and don't just read 1 or 2 comments, read the vast majority of them (unless there are literally hundreds). read as many as you can. if there is one person saying it's bad, check for more. it's not that hard

you can kind of get a feel for how legit it is based on the comments. if they are overwhelmingly positive with no real detail, they are probably fake, too.

Always test this shit in a sandbox environment. Get vmware, download and run your cracks in there.

if you do want to be super, super safe, then yeah, do this.

but i have found that you really don't need to if you're smart about what you download, and from where. i think it's a bit more effort than it's worth
