What are the best sport anime out there? I've only watched Ping Pong and really liked it.
I really like Haikyuu, and I've heard a tons of good things about cross game, but I've never seen it.
Someone's going to say Kuroko no Basket, but I wouldn't watch it unless you're looking for a disguised battle shounen, I watched it expecting a basketball and got "da zone" and faggots making full court shots blindfolded while teleporting around. I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for anything resembling a sports show.

it depends of what you're looking for i guess. maybe hajime no ippo or slam dunk if you don't mind old classics. for me it would be ping pong, one outs and kuroko but i haven't watched that many desu.

Fuck off Digibrony.
haikyuu
the first season is good but the second season is amazing
the only downside is that the games are dragged out over multiple episodes

Yakitatte!! Japan! is one of the best sports anime ever made.
Seconding Cross Game, it's really good.

i watched the first 25 episodes and dropped it, does it pick up?

Depends, what didn't you like about it?
Bamboo Blade is pretty fun. One of the very few highschool/moe animes I actually enjoyed.
Depends on how serious or lighthearted you want it to be. I think while Giant Killing is an excellent football (soccer) anime, I also enjoy stupid fun anime like Inazuma Eleven just as much.

Eyeshield 21 is pretty good. American Football, and fairly stylised
I really like Hajime no Ippo, but my favorite one is Ping Pong (which you just saw so imo it only goes worse from there)

if you're looking for the 'sports' aspect then there's plenty out there, but if you're looking for the 'human' aspect-- the characters, their relationships and all these tasty unique layers then there's really not that many that bring such quality as Ping Pong.
touch might be worth a shot I guess? or perhaps ashita no joe.
