What's your budget on it?

Might can recommend the PS3 super slim for $100 or so plus a multimedia remote control for DVD and Blu-ray. Also, it has WiFi apps and plays GAMES!

what's the application for a top loading DVD player? Needs to fit into a certain space? Dumb grandma? Little kids?

Grandma. The budget wouldn`t mean much, since I`m not american and the exchange rate and taxes distort everything. A PS3 here still costs around $350, and that`s definitely over my budget.
