If you can't be arsed, here's a starting list of good and dark anime:

(not that dark but really good)

This are more maintream and in general less thematically heavy (which means they probably won't stick with you), they also have generally more gore, if that's what you're after:

>Tokyo Ghoul

Mouryou no Hako is one of the darker shows I've seen, but chances are you'll think it's boring shit because it's fairly slow.
