About 7 years ago, maybe longer, there was a website that basically promised to pay the user for visiting. It was a video streaming service and I'm pretty sure it had mostly original content, in very high quality for the time.
The user earned points by playing videos, there was no slider so you couldn't just jump to the end, and the promise was that the points were redeemable for money.
I friend I had back then swore the system worked, but he was a known liar. He said he got t-shirts and other merchandise but, again, he was a liar.
The website was real, though. I visited it.
It frustrated me and I left, and if you ask me it didn't really look like a scam, just like a poorly thought plan. But it probably was a scam.
Who knows. Anyway, anyone remembers the name of the service?

They shut down in 2009 though

Shit son, yeah! I think that was it!
Lemme read some of that Wiki article. I needed to remember this because it was driving my nuts.
Lockerz was semi-legit for a while. I was a member there, and by letting their videos stream while I was doing other shit I managed to get Starcraft: Wings of Liberty at half price.
However, when I later went to redeem enough points to get a PS3 at half off, they claimed that I had been botting to get the points and denied the transaction. So, whatever. It turned into a shitty mess of crappy videos and even crappier merch before getting shut down.
basically they had you collect internet points that only a select few would be able to redeem.
