I'm interested in learning how to speak German. Can any non-native ( or native for that matter) German speakers give any advice or ideas on how to begin?
Read /int/'s sticky, I recommend Duolingo
The Goethe Institute channel has a series of video about being a newcomer in Germany
and listen to shitton of folk metal

Will do. Thanks for the advice.
Get some of those school textbooks. I used some to learn German even though I'm fucking 19. The Echo series is a good start. Duolingo didn't really help me at all

I was afraid someone was going to point me towards a textbook, but I guess that's kind of unavoidable when trying to learn a language. Thank you for the help.

I used duolingo to learn some basic Norwegian, I believe they have German as well though
