Gondola is such a perfect combination god damn it. Listen here anons, here is my take and theory on Gondola: Gondola evokes emotion and works for so long because it is a character anyone can relate to - of simple design, looking like a soft bear-like creature that anyone can draw successfully and a simple enough face that can convey basic emotions if needed to.

A gondola is not a boy nor a girl, man or woman, young nor old, it is devoid of things which sometimes prevent us from relating to it. As an example, take a look at the gif I uploaded, it's comfy and can be made into a gondola-esque webm with adequate music but I'm guessing most of anons here would much rather go look at a gondola webm after a few seconds, even the better looking comfy gifs you see on tumblr can't really compare to Gondolian ones.

And then there's one more thing which divides Gondola from those tumblr-like comfy gifs, it's their simplicity, they often look like you yourself can make them which automatically resonates with you more, the gondola artist isn't some hipster in coffee shop making gifs to upload to tumblr while living the high-life of New York, he is an average joe, just like most of us here

this one always gets me. as much as minecraft gets shit on these days because 99% of the playerbase is little kids, the music really is fantastic at capturing the mood of the game.

its not necessarily a longing for the past, but an appreciation of it, at least in my experience. it's the acknowledgement of experiences that were once idle and day-to-day, like the buzzing of the fridges in a convenience store or the sound of cars on the road as you're sleeping in a motel. reminiscing about the change of what is 'day-to-day' is, to me, what adds to the melancholic contentment gondola webms make me feel. it's not getting sucked back into the past, but reflecting on how it affected you then and now.
