If nothing you try to make is coming out past 30 seconds, you might wanna fiddle with bitrate. Lower bitrates will make the resulting file smaller at the expense of quality but if it's a still image like 90% of the webms in this thread that's a complete non-issue.
Could also have something to do with settings when you first save the video file you're using, don't forget that you're basically just taking one video and turning it into another.

doesn't sound like you are using the right settings. your initial export from ae would be just fine with h264 9k bitrate. Then further optimizations can be made in ffmpeg, primarily the framerate option. If it's not animated it's best to just use a single image and set it to loop to the audio track at 1 fps.

If you are using a still image, it's pretty easy to with ffmpeg:

>ffmpeg -loop 1 -framerate 2 -i [imagefile] -i [song file] -lossless 1 -t [song duration] webmfile

I think you skip the "-framerate 2" if you are using a gif, but I migh be wrong. And the song duration is important (For example 2:30) and has to be set to the length of the song, otherwise ffmpeg will make a literally endless video. At least until your hard drive is full.
