I generally don't think much of this film, but I do like how a martial arts film actually shows boxing as a viable fighting style.

It's always kind of bugged me that it never really gets presented as anything other than low tier thug level stuff in martial arts films. I'm fine with them losing to the hero (who will usually be using some fancier form) because that's just how films work, but so few films bother to show boxing as a style of fighting that actually works.

There have been plenty of shitty strikers in MMA that have done decently because their graplling game was enough to completely dominate anyone who wasn't at an elite level. They just got their opponent in a clinch, tripped them and just proceeded to twist them into pretzels. I mean there have been some pretty decent strikers in MMA, problem is that they usually don't last very long unless they develop a savage ground game. Strikers know that so they just avoid the sport outside of some sparring. Even now we are seeing people primarily focusing on grappling rather than striking when they get into the sport. They ought to be able to develop a good strike game, but everyone just knows that if you're even a little behind in the graplling you'll jsut get humiliated.

But if we're talking about someone like Karlin (comparing champ with champ as well as contemporaries), even if his technique was not perfect his physical power was at such a level at which he absolutely manhandled super heavyweights for over 20 years with no real rival for mos of that time. If he wanted to get Tyson into a lock or a choke, it's entirely possible he could just power through whatever techniques of attack or defend Tyson had picked up in the last 3 years. I mean the only way I can see it going any other way would be if Tyson was on a level of a Olympic GR wrestler who could grapple against people who had 50 pounds on him.

I mean I just think that you're underestimating Karelin in this case. The dude was a monster.

Season 1 of Black Sails was fantastic, but the rest of it was trash (except for the season 2 and 3 finale battles). The characters made so many shit decisions and the writing was so full of foreshadowing that it took away any suspense.

Foreshadowing needs to be vague, not "I have a plan to do a thing, but we'll not cover any more of this plan until later on, when it can come up to ruin the story".

But yeah, Tyson would have broken his fist but at the super heavy weight division, even a 250lb fighter would be knocked cold by a single solid hit. The only way for Ip Man to win that fight would be to never get hit at all. If done right, it would make Tyson look trivial and dominated, which isn't fair to Tyson, but would be realistic. Because the reality is either Ip Man plays a perfect game or he gets 1HKO'd.

I think it could be done. Particularly since boxing is a sport, limited in technique. Tyson is no stranger to street fights though, so his defense would be fine- but he probably wouldn't retaliate with the full capability his physique provides if he knew proper grappling and kicking techniques..

Wing Chun's real advantage is that it's optimized for fighting multiple opponents, which is of no advantage here. All in all my money would be on Tyson, but it wouldn't be a sure thing either. By comparison, I'd say Ip Man stands no chance against Fedor Emelianko. You'd need to pull Bruce Lee out of time to even find a match for top tier MMA fighter in an all out fight. No disrespect to Tyson of course- its like comparing Spartans and Spetznaz- they're just not competing in the same game really.

While the RE series has taken a turn for the worse, I've actually always been of the opinion that basic martial arts would basically make you immune to zombies.
