It's adapted from a novel so there's a lot dialogue involved. Personally it's I love that take in an anime (Monogatari being my favorite anime of all time, Katanagatari a second). The animators make it pretty generous for the viewers by creating scenery changes, jump cuts, tasteful ecchi scenes and amazing over all quality. Watch the first few episodes of Bakemonogatari and try to see if you have the attention span to sit through this pile of dialogue

That's just wrong though.

They're certainly different series and aren't connected in any way, sure, but they're still similar in a lot of ways and are also written by the guy, Nisio Isin. And like the other anon said, they're both monologue fests.

Katanagatari is just a bit more serious compared to Monogatari's very laidback demeanor that it usually has with ecchi and pantyshot scenes galore. Though, maybe that's just a difference in adaption styles between White Fox and Shaft.

Saying they have nothing in common is crazy, though. Unless you were just saying that they're not the same story by being a sequel or prequel or something (in an incredibly poor way), then you're completely wrong.

I feel I should warn you that you don't have to read the text frames that will flash on screen. This should go without saying but some people think they're supposed to read frames that only show for less than one second on screen, for whatever reason, and get exasperated pausing the episode every time a series of text frames goes by. It's just done for style.

If you're curious about what they say then read the novels since they're literally just excerpts from them, usually from the actual chapters being adapted in the episode (which also makes the info in them redundant to watching the episode).

You know what really strikes me about this series? That nudity is always very matter of fact, but clothed scenes present eroticism in a very lovely way. Because the show relies a lot on camera movement through CG backgrounds which either exacerbates the difference between full animation on 1s at 24fps and 2s or even 3s at 12 and 8 fps respectively, or slows down the background to the same rate of animation which will make the whole video look extremely choppy. The monsters aren't defeated by fighting them; they're defeating by solving the core issue. Though there is some fighting in it.

And it's fucking gorgeous and surrealist.
