Actually, the law says motorcycles and bicycles can go in between lanes in traffic, to bypass it. They're also allowed to treat red lights like stop signs, because they're too light to activate the weight sensors that turn most lights green.

I'm not saying it's not douchey, but it is legal. Also anyone that opens car doors to try and cut them off while they're going between lanes in traffic can have criminal charges pressed against them, up to attempted murder depending on how fast the bike is going.

All this is for Canada and the US, not sure if anywhere in Europe has similar laws.

What? Maybe I'm misunderstanding you. Here in California, northern at least, the left lane is either the fast lane or a carpool lane, because more than one person in the car means you get a lane to be faster in, because something had to be done about commute traffic. Not that that helped much.
But around here the general consensus is from left to right it's a descending level of speed, a courtesy based thing ideally, where if you're 2slow you're supposed to fucking stay to the right lane(s). I'm only assuming this isn't the same everywhere because your post implies that, but it also sounds similar enough to where I'm not sure if I'm just misunderstanding you. I don't doubt it though, hell its not the greatest system I'm sure.
It works well enough I guess, except on fucking 680 north, 580 east, and 880 north and south. Clusterfucks.

You've misunderstood him and said exactly what he said, but in a longer format. In pretty much all the right-hand driving countries, the 1st (rightmost) lane is the slow one and the further left you move, the faster you should be driving. The opposite is true for left-hand driving countries.

I heard there are right-hand driving countries where the rightmost lanes are the faster ones, while the inner lanes are the slow ones, but I have no idea what countries have such a system.
