I feel they removed all those good scenes because of a few bad/unnecessary ones. I think the child's story was rightly removed if only because it was wholey unnecessary and unrealistic (getting leprosy, mother killing child). Leprosy isn't inherited and it would be nigh impossible for him to catch it off his uncle, and infanticide wouldn't be partaken in by a medieval religious woman, let alone by most mentally healthy women. I think another reason they may have removed it was that it might give viewers a bad impression of Sibylla (even if her actions were out of mercy).
