ditch the x's on the tab buttons, I reckon you don't use them that much anyways. Same thing with the toolbar icons. You have two different hues of blue going on that don't really look too good together, and a lot of different fonts. Top bar is preference but imo it's too busy. I like the rest of it though, it's a really good start

Well if you want minimal you know Gnome isn't the way to go (plus it's just shit anyway.) With that being said, XFCE is damn slim on resources. Seriously unless your computer was made 20 years ago XFCE (really any DE honestly) will be lightning fast.

Also XFCE is a DE and openbox is just a WM. You could run openbox as XFCE's WM if you wanted to.
