So I've been using iOS until I fucked up and broke my jailbreak. Only way I could keep my phone from being an overpriced paperweight was to update to iOS 10 and suffice to say, it's awful. Absolutely awful. My brother gave me his Samsung Galaxy S4 because he knew how much I hated iOS 10, so I wanted to give a shot at ricing Android. This is my first time ever with an Android device, so please bear with me.

After looking around the guides and searching the web for a bit, I've got a couple questions about ricing an Android device:
1. I'm guessing 'rooting' a device is kinda like jailbreaking an iPhone? But some sites are telling me that it's not really necessary for customizing the appearance of the device. So am I going to need to root my device to do anything worthwhile? If so, how do I get started with rooting my phone? I've tried something called Towelroot, but it told me that my current device didn't support it or something. Gave up after that.

2. So I've downloaded Nova Launcher and KLWP. What are they supposed to be used for? I'm still confused as to what a launcher is supposed to be.

Launchers are just alternative android homescreen styles. Google's launcher is very cluttered and stock while Nova is customizable and organized.

Klwp is a tool you use to make widgets or animations for slide out boxes, etc. You apply is as a Live wallpaper to work.

I'd separate the battery/temp/etc. from the apps, because then being in the same box draws the eye to linking them. I'd also change the album art box to have a title of "album", to match the box with the title of "song".
The only other downside of this is that you can't really see any of your wallpaper.

Okay so I'm having another attempt at KLWP and it's still confusing af. So I've set it to two pages and made it so when I swipe it blurs a section of the background. It works fine inside of the KLWP app but when I save and go to my hamescreen nothing happens. Anyone knows what's going on?

Yesterday I switched from a moto x to a moto z and I got everything the same except my wallpaper resolution is fucked. The wings used to be like half the size on my moto x. Made a small change here, think is looks a bit better this way.

That's a pretty great start for a beginner

long press on the app drawe icon, press edit and tap on the icon for a custom drawer icon

get rid of the status bar (nova settings, look and feel, notification bar, show notification bar)

Now its also time to mess with widgets I guess
Take a look at KWGT or of that is too complicated try Zooper
