On an unrelated, note, I have a dozen or so images that would benefit greatly from someone who knows more about photoshop than I. Some images that could use cleaning up, resizing, cropping out bs in the back, etc. They're mostly all images drawn by Takahashi.

Pretty good tool, I like it. I ran through PS, 1.9xGaussian blur, then did Sharpen, then Sharpen More (why there are two, idk).

Compare this with the other one on here, tell me what you think or what I could do better.

If I could, I'd love to vectorize the image (idk if I'm using that word correctly), just so I can scale as much as needed without blurring. I don't think that will capture some of the smaller details, but it'll be clean.

Tried it again with another pass on gaussian blur, then sharpen. I also saw the yellow patch next to the pigtail, so that's out. Still don't know what to do about the white border, but I'm going to give this a run through gimp.

The right term is alpha channeling, or cutting out. Vectorizing is when you take a rasterized image and make it into something you can scale infinitely without pixelation.

First I use fuzzy in add to selection mode to select pick out the background. In the bigger areas that didn't come out that well I manually erase. After I do that, I use the fuzzy select tool with feather edges to select the alpha channel, and then I use the stroke selection tool with the paintbrust set to color erase, and the color set to white(typically I'll set the brush size to be just enough to get any snowing off of the edges. After that I look over the image and try to find any snowing on the edges I missed, and erase those manually. For heavily colored snowing I'll use the paintbrush in color mode with the color set to white to desaturate, then I'll go back over with the color erase on white. Finally I'll upscale and do the same thing all over again.

After I upscale it, and repeat my cut out process, I put the transparent image on multiple colored backgrounds to make sure as best as I can that there's as little snowing as possible. Once I'm done I usually just put the pictures on regular weeb looking wallpapers like this.

Also, when using the stroke selection tool with the brush in color erase mode, do I end up using Stroke Line, or Stroke with paint tool? I'm guessing the latter, because the former just puts a white line around all thats selected, which isn't bad, because the line width is getting rid of the color left over from the original image background, but now I have a white line instead.

Is there a way to have, what is essentially an eraser that is doing the same thing? Erase selection to alpha, with AA for a selected pixel width?

Also, what are optimal settings for saving a .png in gimp? Zero compression, to start? I also ran this one through waifu2x yesterday, and that was it, kinda like how it came out. There is more that can be done with it - Akanes hair came out a little weird, and maybe the blue on Ranma and the purple on Shampoo can be a little deeper.

Ha, yeah, right? Well, getting there.

The one I posted above yours >>2013126 was yesterdays run:
-ran through waifu2x and 2x size
-went back and retraced black outermost border lines to smooth out the surface
-Compressed image back down to 1000x1000 at 100dpi (how much of a difference does this make?)
-went back for some color edits on the jumpsuit where the color select tool had deleted some of the darker greys, so the test layer behind Ranma was showing through.

I think in general, the lines on yours are a little bit more jagged, and if you were working off the one I posted earlier, then they definitely are. Though, looking at the two, there are some aspects about mine that I'm seeing now that need me to go back and apply some smoothing agent to it. Example, look at the line under the chin - yours is aliased to the point where it looks smooth, where mine, I can definitely see a jaggedness.


Also, is this still the same person who was editing earlier?
