>Announced re-release of SF2 for SNES on cartridge
>Gets sold out even though it warns you it might catch on fire and fuck up your SNES

Wew lad is this a new form of autism?
>>
>>4239929
Doesn't sound like autism, sounds like hopeful collectors. There are people out there still playing SF2, but they're not doing on SNES.
>>
>>4239929
The old thread died for good reason, OP, yet you remake it? Just let it go.
>>
>>4239936
>sounds like hopeful collectors

How so?
>>
>>4239929
Is it the standard edition of Street Fighter II, or does it have the extra characters and shit? Because if it's just the vanilla game you can buy a cart for $15-$20 off ebay
>>
>actually playing a collector item

why though
>>
>>4239937
Haven't been in /vr/ for quite a while there already was a thread?
>>
>>4239941
But does it glow in the dark?
>>
These people are not real fans like I am but also for some reason I don't already own the game and they're preventing me from being able to play it by treating a limited re-release like a collector's item
>>
>>4239941
these are not bought for play
>>
>>4239938
Because the people who care about Street Fighter 2 enough to still be playing it are doing so in better versions of the game. They're not going to buy this cart and then start playing SF2 SNES again.

There might be a few nostalgia sales by more casual players who want to give it a whirl again.

But the main market I see would be people who think it will be a collector's item buying it for the same reason they buy up the NES Minis. It's collectable and potentially resalable later. SNES SFII carts aren't even super rare, so being a collector's item is the only real purpose of it.

That's why the biggest text in the ad is the announcement that it's a limited print run. I doubt most of the ones sold will ever even leave the box, let alone be played enough to catch fire.
>>
>>4239943
Behold
>>4226584
>>
>buy doom/carnage cart
>swap out PCB with real sf2 cart
>replace label with reprint
>sell it on eBay saying game only
>hope some idiot buy it thinking its the collectors edition
>>
>>4239929
Some of them won't even play it. They'll leave it sealed in the box forever.
>>
>>4239965
>Doom and Maximum Carnage swiftly go up to $100 a pop.
>>
>>4239936
More like hopeful resellers.
>>
>>4239973
Madden '94 then. Any trash game will do, you know how this goes
>>
>>4239981
Only Doom and Carnage have red carts.
>>
>>4239978
They're essentially the same thing in my eyes. But yes. That was probably 95% of the sales, at least.
>>
>>4239969
Why would you play this? It causes fires and beyond that is just the $5 street fighter 2 in a red case.
>>
>>4239929
This is one of the worst possible 'collectibles' I've ever seen. Worse than even Limited Run Games (and goddamnit I bought Shantae off of them).

It's nothing more than a desperate cash grab by capcom since none of their current games are selling and people are starting to see them for the shitty company they are.

In a few months we'll have a bunch of newfags flocking the board bragging about their 'collection' and this fucking piece of shit will be the only thing they actually own. Screencap this.
>>
>>4240435
Just finished my Street Fighter II collection! Super stoked. Retro fighting night, anyone? :)

>photo of a variety of old SFII ports, with this sitting in the middle, fresh off ebay for $300 and nestled unopened in a hard acrylic case
>>
>>4240443
If, IF someone got this, plus all the old SF2 games boxed, sealed, and sitting on a dedicated shelf JUST for Street Fighter II, I could appreciate their collectors spirit. But you just know that this was released exclusively for scalpers to make money off of rubes.

Because they're cashing in on people who will buy it, take a quick photo which they will upload to twitter or facebook to show how much of a nerd they are, and then promptly leave it on their shelf forever never to actually be played. People who wanna play SF2 on SNES either already own a copy or would rather get the version that doesn't cost $100.

>>4241070
I get the feeling that most showoff collectors need to be told if something is a hot collectible in order for them to go bananas over it. Have Metal Jesus or James/Mike upload a video talking about how having a sealed original SNES SFII port is more of a collectible and cooler than having the 30th anniversary release and you can bet that sealed SFIIs would quickly sell out on eBay. Or maybe I'm just cynical.

I'd kinda think that most people evaluating a "full set" might place a cutoff when the SNES was discontinued. The only way i could see this being included in some sort of set would be if it were a different software revision. Also the fact that it is a US release and lacks official Nintendo approval would be a strike against it.
>>
>>4240735

>I get the feeling that most showoff collectors need to be told if something is a hot collectible in order for them to go bananas over it.
Well, yeah. Don't you remember the comics bubble in the 90s? The only shit that non-fan buyers were actually buying were retarded "LIMITED* COLLECTOR'S EDITION" that today aren't even worth the paper they're printed on, because they were so overproduced. The people who aren't actually part of the hobby only buy the things they're told to buy, either by the people creating it or by the actual fans.

>>
>>4242809
He's criticizing your grammar. "Could of" is just a mispronounced corruption of "could've" that you spelt out, which is a contraction of "could have".
>>
>>4242561
>lacks official Nintendo approval
Yep. It's an official Capcom release but it's not a Nintendo licensed release, so licensed set collectors won't care.
>>
Anyone else think this might be Capcom looking at the retro market and trying to test the waters for official "reproduction" cartridges for other games?

Like, what if they decide to do "reproduction" versions of games for a cheaper price (maybe $40-$60 instead of $100) that are actually expensive, like Demon's Crest, Mega Man 7, X2 or X3? Even 10,000 brand new copies of those could really affect the price a lot. Of course collectors would obviously want the original version, but the prices on those games are not only from "rarity" but also because people really want to play them in an official capacity on the original hardware.
>>
>>4243154
>Capcom
>Doing anything nice ever
Yeah no
>>
>>4243154

I think this is some retro scalper emailing Crapcom USA for permission to print their logo on the cover. Crapcom USA decides it's a decent enough idea since they don't have to go out of their way and do something themselves for the 30th anniversary.
>>
>>4239973

>>
>>4243154
>Like, what if they decide to do "reproduction" versions of games for a cheaper price (maybe $40-$60 instead of $100)
What's the point, it'll only be scalped and price flipped on ebay immediately upon release.
>>
>>4242042
how can you know without a dump?
>>
Apparently that game burns your house down.

"WARNING: Use of this reproduction game cartridge (the “Product”) on the SNES gaming hardware may cause the SNES console to overheat or catch fire. The SNES hardware is deemed a vintage collectible, so please exercise extreme caution when using the Product and make sure there is fire extinguishment equipment nearby. Use of the Product is at the sole risk of the user. "
>>
Even the most cheap chinese repro cart can't ignite your fucking SNES, what the fuck
>>
>>4243982
There are people backpedaling even in this thread that it only implies there is a small chance all snes games could do that.
>>
>>4243820
10,000 new copies of the game entering the market all at once would decimate the price of just about any game worth more than the price they're asking for it.
>>
>>4243154
>doing cheaper repros when a more expensive one sold out
That's just bad business
>>
>>4243982
it's because they use 3.3v memory.
but they do also use voltage translators.
>>
>>4243609
Nothing nice about that, it's all about money

>>4243154
yes, and I bet many other companies are thinking the same thing. I hope they do, I have a decently valuable collection but so many of the other collectors and dealers I have interacted with are insufferable and I hate what the scene has become.
>>
>>4240501
I'd be willing to bet those $475 are shill sales to artificially inflate the price. It happens all the time.
>>
>>4243813
Nice reading comprehension, chief.
>>
>>4245193
I think it's unlikely that disclaimer itself is related to 3.3v flash. (I don't mean they aren't using 3.3.v flash, just that I don't think that disclaimer is because of it.)
It sounds more like they're worried about things like old machines and power adapters with frayed wires. It's written rather stupidly though so they only have themselves to blame for people thinking it's saying this particular cartridge is dangerous.
>>
YOU CANT EVEN PARRY IN THIS GAME. IT"S BASICALLY SWEEP AND SPAM HADOOKEN/SHOYUKEN.
>>
>another re-release
>After Capcom just released Ultra Street Fighter 2 for Switch in celebration of the 30th anniversary

Is there a company more Jewish than Capcom? Even Konami with its Pachinko machines is a better company in 2017.
>>
>>4245038
>price of original stays the same, might even go up due to hype over rerelease
>rerelease itself quickly spikes up to over retail price
>collectors don't want one or the other, they must have both

The absolute state of retro game collectors.
>>
>WARNING: Use of this reproduction game cartridge (the “Product”) on the SNES gaming hardware may cause the SNES console to overheat or catch fire. Holy shit how can this be legal?

And one hundred bucks? Utter bullcrap! Why?!

Just a cynical cash in by Capcom, where the real developers will likely never get a penny of it. At least with an official game of the time, it was like a moment in time, like an antique. Capcom shitting this out now is absurd, only an idiot would pay $100 for this.

If Capcom's doing cartridge reprints they should do Shantae for GBC
>>
>>4239929
At least they chose to gouge the fuck out of the original World Warrior edition on the SNES. That is so common, it can still be found today for $10-$20USD. It was one of the few games I ever sold away because Turbo was coming out. They could have chose something more uncommon or pricey like a Final Fight Guy, Final Fight 3, Megaman X2 or X3, etc. So choosing the most common and unwanted title avoids collector backlash.

It's for collectors and scalpers, but why wouldn't random plastic items and artwork suffice for those fanatics of a 30th anniversary instead of the SNES port? I think they had to latch onto those who think the SNES is the greatest console of all time. Since they could have opted to use a Tiger Electronics Street Fighter 2 LCD game, but no, SNES is valuable. The psychological manipulation is strong pushing the limited quantities or else they'd miss out or suffer higher prices from the scalpers.

If they were going to do a repro, why not something that deserves it with improvements? Like the Genesis version with Pyron's color hack (corrections) and Stef's sound driver fixes: https://youtu.be/mYKLwDk21YQ
Or something interesting like the Virtual Boy's homebrew rendition:
https://youtu.be/nUChl88zcZE

I would say because the SNES is money. There is money to be made. Such things cannot be done with Atari 2600, but SNES is a goldmine.
>>
>>4249789
The fact that the SNES version is merely an imperfect port makes the whole thing even stranger. What WOULD be awesome would be a collectors edition disc for some modern console or PC, containing all SFII arcade versions and all revisions of each, even ones that haven't been publicly dumped. But, of course that would take more Cpacom initiative... so yeah
>>

>>
>>4241027
I'm in a few Nintendo retro groups on Facebook (yes it's shit but it's good for a laugh) and no joke, there's retard collector's out there dying to get their hands on this and pay hundreds of dollars. If someone here is scalping these to those types of idiots, you're doing God's work, thank you.
>>
>>4247651
Why? Wayforward owns the IP. Even the Virtual Console release of the original Shantae scrubs the Capcom logo out.
>>
>>4250358
Capcom fanboys have more than once tried to lay claim to Shantae, desperate to say Capcom still makes good games.
