>play through ChocDoom
>every time I try a modern source port I get triggered by how subtly different they look and feel
>most don't even get the lightning exactly right
Ignorance really is a blessing famalams, I can't go back to Zdoom after this experience.

>ChocDoom
Why not play it in Dosbox instead? ChocDoom offers literally no advantages.
>>4236631
Because you need to push the cycle speed pretty fucking high in DOSBox and Choc runs fine on a 6 year old Windows 7 laptop?
>>4236631
Why the fuck would you ever emulate Doom when the source code is already available anyways.
>>4236638
Same reason people buy 90's consoles when they can be perfectly emulated on most platforms.
Autism, I guess.

chocolate doom is the exact same doom you can play on DOS, except you don't waste your CPU power on emulation

> not playing actual doom on dosbox
This is so easy and runs great on my 10 year old laptop.

Chocolate Doom is cool. I thought I'd hate it, but it turns out to be pretty fun. Making vanilla-compat maps is neat, too.
>>4236631
how about not having to run it in a fucking emulator

When you hit puberty you will understand.

try posting this on doomworld or facebook or something, instead of the board dedicated to retro video games
>>4237985
the only thing that you must really play in gzdoom imo is hexen
better mouselook is worth it

I decided to not listen to /vr/ for my first ever playtrough of Doom 2 and just played it on DOSbox on Steam instead of ZDoom.
Big mistake, literally have to stop after 30 minutes because my eyes threaten to commit suicide. ChocDoom doesn't do this to me, tho it is a mess to get Steam to target that instead of DOSbox without losing my savegames for some reason.

Original doom on dosbox is utter shit, It's a mess to configure and is unstable whili choco is rock hard stable AND comfy
