The Mysidians locked the door. This is explained by like the first NPC in Baron town and mentioned when you go through it from Mysidia

They should cast Frog or Mini, not Pig.
As a Pig, you still have your full melee capability. It only prevents magic.

Would Protect/Reflect work on bombs? Hell, just use thunder to strike the airships. In a different game Mysidia would have obliterated the Red Wings.

I guess organisation/military training just goes a long way.

If you start sending an invading army through a lockable portal one soldier at a time, that portal is going to get locked the fuck up long before you get enough soldiers through it to do anything of particular use.
