He's probably referring to the vertical stripe, it's present in all SNES models and visible in every game, but as OP said it's much easier to see when using s-video/rgb. I seem to notice it mostly on dark purple/blue backgrounds, like the opening level in Megaman X.

If it bothers you that much you could just use composite. It's barely noticeable most of the time anyway.
