So, is it correct that all those bromides were added by Working Designs and are not present in the japanese versions?

I play these games with the "Un-Worked Design" patches from romhacking.net which revert enemy stats and scaling back to what they are in the original version. Can I just ignore the bromides and their stat boosts?

Nope, WD only added a few joke bromides as an extra.

didnt even think it was a game term at first, thanks for the explanation,

Sup, millennial.

>Can I just ignore the bromides and their stat boosts?

Well, the stat boosts are honestly pretty trivial to most of the better gear anyways.
>>
>>4193527

I am not a millennial, I just don't like the bullshit changes that were made to the game in order to get more cash out of the rental market. If you are into this typical WD crap, try playing Exile 2 on the PC-Engine. You won't beat it.
>>
>>4193530
We just play the original Japanese version.
>>
>>4193532

Good for you but not everyone understands Japanese well enough to play RPGs.
>>
>>4193536
Nearly everyone can learn it.
>>
>>4193503

Borgan's bromide is GOAT. Prove me wrong.
>>
>>4193536

Not everyone makes bitches over trivial matters either. You care so much about the proper Japanese experience you learn fucking Japanese.

OP, I know what you meant, and I'm in that camp as well, the guys Un-Working Designs-ing games are doing God's work (if youre reading this, youre awesome)

little piece of advice though, ignore the trolls
>>
>>4193530

The changes to SSSC and EBC are fine. I like how the bosses in those version have a little more bite; makes them more interesting to fight. The bromides being hidden instead of a moneysink makes them more fun as well (but why are you looking for them if you can view them online unless you're going for a perfect game?).

It's not like the US versions are remotely hard anyway; most of the team working together can nuke every random encounter and have enough firepower to devastate the bosses in the first game, while Lemina, Jean, and Hiro working together can nuke just as well as Mia, Alex, Kyle, and Nash do in SSSC. The only actually hard parts in both games is the boat boss early in SSSC, gathering up enough cash to stay topped up on Starlights in EBC, and Zophar.

You know this means born in the 80s-90s, right?

>one of the people that loves silver star story complete and eternal blue complete partially because of wd's scripts
>now everyone hates wd's translations because of some hardcore weebs from tcrf making it seem like it wd's scripts were penned by satan himself to make the worst writing possible and retards whos only knowledge of translation comes from reading legends of localization
>>
>>4193569
His translations are serviceable. The stories in most games are hardly anything special.
However, it's the alterations he made to the gameplay that really bothers me.
>>
>>4193575

The gameplay changes depends on the games. They're fine in SSSC, but they can go get fucked in the Sega CD version of Eternal Blue and Popful Mail.

If I were playing the PSX Lunar games, I wouldn't bother patching them, but the Sega CD ones? Sure, because I don't have the patience to deal with their retarded changes anymore.

Agreed about the stories. Even the Lunar games, the games with the best stories that WD did, are mediocre early 90s OVAs at their greatest moments, in terms of plot.
>>
It's hard to take criticisms of WD's scripts seriously after seeing people complain about the dragon diamond being a lump shit.
>>
>>4193537
Load of shit, you guys are funny though.
>>
>>4194382
Disprove it.
It's a normal language that everyday people learn and use. Only a handicapped would find it impossible to learn.
>>
>>4194382
With any language it takes time to understand the sentence structures, nuances, slang, and colloquialisms. Sure you can learn the words easy enough due to the Romanization of the language, but the rest takes time, unless you're fully immersed in it.

Ask a HS grad to who took 2-3 years of German or French to translate a series of conversations totaling 50-100 pages into English. They may be able to translate the words but will likely miss subtle contexts.

I see it all the time, people who aren't immersed in a language, even educators who don't regularly speak in a foreign language often miss context clues and the like for the language they teach.
>>
>>4194395

>4194431
This was meant for you not myself.
>>
>>4194431
What's the problem with taking time?
Translating is pointless. Even if you get all nuances they are hard to press into another language's mold.

>Ask a HS grad to who took 2-3 years of German or French

You can't compare someone taking high school level courses 40 minutes a day (except on weekends and breaks, so like, half the days out of the year) to a person who actually wants to learn a language studying seriously.
>>
>>4197406
>Even people who actively want to learn the language will have difficulty unless immersed in in the language. People who proclaim "if I can do it, any one can" are foolish. Not everyone is memorizes and processes information at the same speed and the same way.
