Has anyone played the Alex Kidd in Miracle World 2 fan game that came out not too long ago? If so, thoughts?
I'm going to give it a blast once my Mega Everdrive arrives.

I had not heard of it. I downloaded it just now, so I guess I'll give it a spin next time I fire up the old flashcart but not tonight.

Are there any new visuals (beyond the title screen) or game mechanics?

New original music, new environments and new enemies, although the new enemies are just tileswaps. The janken sequences have been removed.

Come on dude, you know the janken games are just a pointless distraction. It's a case of trial and error until you know the sequence. They're never random, so no skill involved. They're just a waste of time and lives.

This, nothing pissed me off more than to work my way to a boss only to lose to fucking chance.

As accurate as your information is, it's a core element of Alex Kidd in Miracle World and this hack that dares to use the name without that core element is already failing at being a sequel.

This.
The classy thing to do would have been integrating the Janken mechanics better into the gameplay somehow. Removing them only makes it even blander.
