Hey /vr/, I'm not entirely sure if this is the right place to ask but I didn't get much of a response on /v/ so

Are there any modern controllers that have the Neo Geo styled microswitched thumbpad thing? I absolutely love it but can't find anything like it, and an actual Neo Geo CD controllers anywhere

Not retro but theres the PS3 Versus Controller has microswitches in the stick, I'd loved it until the left trigger crapped out after a few months of heavy MvC3 play. It's USB so it might work on a PC, I never tried.

The PDP Versus Fight Pad is what you're probably looking for but you'll be disappointed. The microswitches are much much smaller but they do still give tactile feedback. Of course, if you "pringles mod" a 360 controller you can feel the domes compress.

Whoops, you beat me to it

OP here. Reading up on these and it seems like the build quality is overall pretty poor. But they're basically the sort of thing I'm looking for so thanks!

They had some USB neo geo pads for the PS3/PC in Japan a ways back but good luck finding one. Id love if they did a new run

It'll break on you eventually, but at least it's cheap.

Arcade sticks have microswitches.

But they don't have Neo Geo styled thumbpads

I thought the locating bump (the braille dot on the d-pad) is supposed to point up, your pic has it on the left.

I know the PDP pads >>4184503 and >>4184505 posted and the Retron 5 has a similar kind of microswitched thumb pad. However it may be a placebo effect, but I think the actual NeoGeo Pad 2 and NeoGeo Pocket microswitched thumb pad feels quite different. It is hard to explain, and since I am not accurate with this style of d-pad (so not the best to judge), I would describe the difference from the SNK to the PDP/Hyperkin would be the SNK ones feel more "solid underneath" where it has more defined cardinal directions and less prone for me to hit a diagonal than the PDP/Hyperkin one (even though I still do a lot with my bad hands).

I missed out. Couldn't afford them then, and definitely not now.

My local Funko Pop! store has a couple for under $15 each, worth it or is it well overpriced?
>>
Get a fightstick pcb, wire it to a deep DB-15 port and just use an actual Neo pad.
>>
>>4185127
It's not worth it for one second if you already have a Neo Geo Pad 2. Maybe to disassemble it and post a side by side comparison of how shitty its microswitches are compared to Playmore's. There doesn't seem to be a single pic of the PDP's switches online, possibly because the stick is a glue-sealed component.

I ordered my pdp fightpad and it came yesterday. I mainly use for emulators and some fighting games but I was mostly looking forward to play Sonic Mania with it, now I just hope it lasts for another 2 weeks. I saw someone on the Tekken 7 steam forums saying he's had it for 3 years and it still works properly so experiences wildly vary

Personally I like it a lot. I've been playing on 2d fighters and platformers with it and I'm not disappointed. It was like 15 bucks so It wasn't that bad. I've never used an arcade stick by the way.
