>he dream for having the worst portable
>not a superior PC Engine
>not a Gamegear
>not a Lynx
>>
If you were a kid back then you'd understand that game boy was the only portable console that was talked about around school. So of course he would dream about what he could talk to his friends about.
Nintendo marketing was huge.
>>
>PC Engine

decent games, absolute dogshit battery life

>Game Gear

see above

>Lynx

see above, but minus "decent games"

Game Boy was really the only good handheld because it had a battery life longer than 2 hours and had the most games by far

That's what the plug is for. Also you can use rechargeable batteries.

>>4181114
Gameboy's screen is awful, the graphics are terrible and most of its library is shovelware, but at least the battery lasts.
>>
>>4181836
"It's portable!" he shrieks autisticaly, plugging the system into a wall across the room from everyone.

"It's portable!" he howls scrunching his face up looking for an outlet in the middle of the woods on the family camping trip

"It's portable." He grumbles through gritted teeth for being left out of as his schoolmates trade pokemon, wondering why no one wants to watch him play Sonic, or even hang out with him anymore.

"It's portable..." he mumbles in the principals office. He just wanted to play under the desk like all the other kids, he didn't mean to get caught sneaking to an outlet in the back of class.

"You'll get it back when you're more responsible." His dad says, taking the Game Gear from him and putting it in the attic. "Now maybe he'll stop being attached to walls and actually make some friends. Portable my ass."

Is the game gear good?
Does it have a a/c plug?

>>
>>4182618
I never heard of it on my country, even the other sega consoles were rare, being a nintendo country and all at that time
What is your opinion on the Game gear?
>>
>>4182621
Its great but the screen is blurry and all of them need new capaciters. The resolution is also less than desirable but it has a lot of gems.
>>
>>4182586
From your "autistic" ranting, I'd say you never owned a handheld system in your life.
>>
>>4182659
Not one that gets 10 C-Cels to the minute and requires being constantly plugged in, no. Then again, I've never owned a retro handheld. Oldest that I got is a GBA SP AGS101. Till they had backlights and good battery life I wasn't interested.
>>
>>4181114
What the average young boy in the 90s would say about those choices:

>GameBoy: Oh, awesome! That has Mario and stuff on it!
>[TurboExpress]: What?
>GameGear: Oh, I played that at a friend's once. It's kinda neat.
>Lynx: ...What?
>>
>>4182853
>Till they had backlights and good battery life I wasn't interested.

I'm sure that's the reason you never had anything older than an SP.
>>
>>4182853
Fun fact:

Game Gear and Lynx, on modern alkaline batteries, get more playtime than a 3DS does with its fancy lithium pack.
>>
>>4182964
But one is rechargeable and the other is not.
>>
>>4181114
i mean, i mostly wanted one as a kid because all the other kids in my after-school care had them to trade pokemon
>>
>>4182975
>But one is rechargeable and the other is not.
You obviously never heard of rechargeable batteries.
>>
>>4183145
Most rechargeable batteries are NiMH.

Underage autist detected.

Game Gear died long before Pokémon arrived in the West.
>>
>>4183223
I imagine you were the wrong age in the generation or not born yet, but trading pokemon at school was especially in around the time the gamegear came out.
>>
>>4183225
Not him, but the Game Gear came out several years before Pokemon existed.
>>
>>4183225
>Game Gear discontinued in 1997
>Pokémon trading cards released between 1998 and 1999

Autistic retard. And certainly no one was playing Game Gear in 1999.
>>
>>4183221
This was in the early 90's, NGPC came out in 1999
>>
>>4182923
I know what you're implying, but I'm 29. Despite owning a hand-me-down NES and a Genesis I didn't get into video games till the PS1/N64 era. We just never had enough money growing up to buy carts and stuff.
>>
>>4183225
You obviously aren't old enough to realize the Pokemon craze didn't begin until 1998, but by then the Game Gear was already discontinued since 1997. Besides, I was 16 & in high school by the time Pokemon came out & by that time I was playing mature games like Metal Gear Solid & Resident Evil.

On top of that I was getting laid & listening to heavy metal music. Pokemon was the furthest thing away from my mind.
>>
Lots of good games, and battery durability.
People nowadays have good memories of their old Game Boy. The ones who had to deal with Game Gear have lots of regrets.
>>
>>4183221
Didn't the color come out later?
>>
>>4181114

Somewhere in space and time exists an alternate reality where its Pamela Anderson who walks in holding a Lynx and apple pie.
>>
>>4183478
Ah, OK. My mistake.

>>4183493
Heh, I was playing games like RE right around the time I was playing Pokemon Red. Guess I was just a fucked up kid.

Only the Gameboy had GAMES.

Game Gear was eye cancer with its blurry as fuck screen even if it was color.

There is no choice for me. I could play a Gameboy while eating chocolate cake with her riding my dick. If there was enough light to see the Gameboy.

>>4185017
Back then, I thought the Gameboy had cheaper imitations of what I had on the NES. In fact I thought all portable games were that way coupled with limited means and funds, I stuck with consoles and PC for a long time. As interested as I got with EGM articles about the Lynx, I did lump the Gameboy games with LCD games in those days, in order to hold out. Nowadays, I want a consolized Game Gear, to skip that blurry screen. My first portable was the TurboExpress which was thrown in with the TurboDuo I bought and it has been neglected, but I wish to one day get the screen modded to a more modern screen that is less blurry. I also remembered the Gameboy blurred really badly on movement as well.

I remembered it was like the GameGear displays 32 colors of a possible 4096 while the Genesis can do 64 but out of a possible 512. What if a game chooses to use one of those 3584 colors the GameGear has that the Genesis does not? I mean I know the Genesis does have a Z80 the Master System has but even that is worse at 32 of 64. It is cool to try them out with FM synthesis, but I don't think either can properly replicate how a GameGear may display an image. Plus I hear GameGear systems also suffer from leaky capacitors like a TurboDuo, so may as well mod out the screen and just have it spit out RGB to a TV/monitor.

That thing came out way later. By the time it arrived the GameBoy Color was out and Game Gear and Lynx were long dead.
