Why did Foxy never become as famous and beloved as other classic

Lots of games never got translated but had characters that were adored. Look at Mother 3.

Mother 3 had Smash characters, and it came out in age where romhack translations were common. It's also a direct sequel to a well known series, meaning that everyone who played Earthbound wanted to play it.

I think Mother 3 translation might be one of the best known translation patch projects on the net, if not the best known.
