Samurai spirits 3 for the Game Boy, best game boy port and the game plays as good as a NGP fighter.
>>4123236
What's that like samurai showdown?

Elevator action returns is just a really good game and I enjoy it a lot. I think others would enjoy it as well.
I recommend emulation, as no game should ever be $200 or more
>>4123276
>$200 is a lot of money to him
>>4123279
For videogames yes. I learned the hard lesson when I at one point collected around 100 Saturn games,
That I could have the entire library for a fraction of the cost using a rhea and the original hardware.
Flashcarts and og hardware are the ways to go, the market today is just crazy nowadays.

I see you every time someone mentions the neo geo pocket. It's like you're some sort if wayward internet spirit and every time the NGP is brought up, you're summoned and must let everyone know that playing fighting games against the CPU is pathetic and pointless. My guess is you got one of those NGP blister packs in the early 00s because you couldn't afford a GBA and the other kids made fun of you for playing fighting games alone. After killing yourself out of sheer loneliness and guilt over your mother's depression, you return to 4chan to try and stray people away from the path that led to your dishonorable end. "Good luck finding another loser who has one of these shitty things." he said through gritted teeth and selling tears. "And good luck finding the stupidly expensive kink cable without trying to sell a kidney." He knew that every bright-eyed retro enthusiast would be tempted by the path he had once taken. He knew that anyone he could would be one less tear of sadness and one less life lost to the misery that the Neo Geo Pocket brings. This is how he would make a difference. One life saved through his shitposting would be enough to make it all worthwhile. All the heartbreak and humiliation he endured; all the nights he felt alone and forgotten. He'd save those wayward collectors - because there was nobody there to save him.

I prefer the simplicity of the original.
returns is really nice game in its own right, though.
>>4123390
Some arcade ports were superior on console (much more levels, bosses, etc.)
Some are just different enough to be interesting.
>>4123390
I don't have MAME on a crt, and I only have one pc controller, OP game is best for multiplayer
>>4123390
Not knowing you can play the original elevator action
By selecting a code on the elevator action returns screen
>>4123652
Well you can play the original on mame too
>>4123534
Neither is the case of Elevator Action Returns though
>>4123657
Fair enough.
>>4123276
Plus it's an arcade game. Why go through the bullshit of Saturn emulation at all?
Odds are anyone who has even gotten a huge MAME torrent already has this game in the roms folder and doesn't even know it
>>4123535
>blah blah blah CRT
Jesus will this shit ever end?
>>4124025
Will check it out thanks
This and Star Luster. Two of my favorites.
>>4124102
Never even heard of it
Perhaps its just nostalgia, but this game's combat is so damn fun. The progression system is also cool and varied. After every fight you can buy new moves like lightning kick and nunchuks. Or you can buy health upgrades/damage upgrades instead.
>>4124102
Oohh, this one was great - the main reason I dig out my PS3 once in a while is to play Star Ixiom.
>>4124156
They're first person space shooters. They have a pretty cool thing where you have to warp across the galaxy and keep planets safe from aliens in real time.
Ixiom is pretty cool because you start off fighting the aliens from Luster but eventually start fighting the aliens from Galaga and a few other games.
>>4123526
He's got a point though.
Playing fighting games against the CPU is pointless, it's just inferior to playing against a human in every way.
I'm not aware of any fighting games on the NGP that are good enough to make it worthwhile to play them on hardware that is so clearly suboptimal for fighting games.
>>4124102
>>4124873
Never played Star Luster but I liked Star Raiders a lot when I was a kid
>>4124980
>suboptimal for fighting games
You've never used that glorious microswtixh stick, have you? It's fucking PERFECT for fighting games.
>>4124980
Also gals fighters and match of the milennium both play beautifully and are worth buying the system for. The other mainstays (king of fighters R2, the last blade, samurai shodown 2) are all great ports for the hardware and play wonderfully.
Anyone who talks trash on the NGPC fighting games has probably never tried them.
>>4123234
I remember it being bashed at the arcade where I lived(if Returns is Elevator Action 2 as that's how was this action romp called where I lived). And I somewhat agree with the negative opinion about it. Sure it's a great game but it's not the elevator action people that played the original wanted. Original is simpler but more fun to play overall.
>>4123526
>>4125121
Couldn't disagree more
>>4123526
Boy, have I been craving fresh pasta.
>>4124980
>suboptimal for fighting games
This man has clearly never used a NGPC.
Not retro... yet.
>SOOOOOOOOOOOO FAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRR GOOOOONNNNNNEEE!!!
>>4126325
Compared to the real thing on Dreamcast and PS2 they are clearly inferior ports.
>>4126325
B-BUT THE NUB CONTROLS ARE THE GREATEST SENSATION ON EARTH
>>4126378
I hear they feel like a tiny boy's penis
>>4126353
>ports
They are like completely new games. Also the stick is actually superior to either the dreamcast or PS2 controller, but it doesn't matter because the games themselves are completely different.
>>4126378
It really is. The only (non-arcade stick_ controller I have ever used that is better for fighting games than the Saturn pad.
>>4126390
>They are like completely new games
Unironically, no shitposting intended, the only original game I recall was the CvS2 cardgame and Gals Fighter. Samurai Shodown thing was based on the Neo Geo 64 Warrior's Rage.
>>4126394
Pocket Rumble was completely original.
>>4126390
>They are like completely new games
You are correct, due to being 8bit the framedata is inherently different. Hence what makes them inferior ports.
>>4126394
Match of the Millennium
The most realistic 3D fightan, even if the characters are weird as fuck.
I like Tobal no1 better than 2, but both are better than Tekken 3.
>>4123234
>>4126380
It is possibly the only thing that feels better.
>>4125012
There's this game I played maybe once or twice as a kid. It was on nes, and had 2 modes. One where you flew through space in first person looking for planets, and the other half was a hori shmup where you'd play through a stage after approaching a planet. Is this that game?
I almost feel like I dreamt it up, never been able to find any info about it
>>4123936
You're on the wrong board to be complaining about that, anon.
>>4127093
Star Raiders and Star Luster (Star Raiders remakes/enhanced ports to Famicom & PS) are in first person the whole time
>>4127152
Forgot GBA is not allowed. My bad.
>>4126325
I have one right here, actually.
There's no reason to play the NGPC fighters if you have the console versions available. I guess someone could enjoy them if you just look at them in isolation, but I could never get into them.
>>4126529
Arguably better game than SVC Chaos. Why the fuck didn't SVC Chaos play like that?
>>4127835
Can I have your ngpc?
>>4123268
>>4127106
No I'm not. Games are games. CRT bullshit is the realm of /g/ but it's never called out.
CRTfags are obsessed with playing on a certain TV is your concern over the act of playing for it's own sake. They don't care about the game, they care about some retarded Retro Street Cred.
>How can I play ____?
Well it was ported to such and such as well as released on such and such collection
>Okay but how can I play it on a CRT?
Fuck off
It needs to fucking stop, seriously.
>>4128882
No, I need it to play Card Fighter's Clash. :^)
>>4127048
Good call
>>4123526
BALEET THIS
>>4129115
I already beat it twice ~14 years with an emulator.
>>4130706
With a /CRT/ monitor. So?
>>4127048
Japanese version is better.
Monkey magic
Yoyo puzzle park
Both on ps1
>>4131529
>containment thread
Does that even exist anymore? I thought they were banned recently?
>>4128061
Excellent game, probs my favorite Rare game on the Nes. I love that it references the Lunar Jetman comic strip that ran in Crash, the spectrum magazine
