Hey guys, dumb question but Google isn't helping: can you use a Japanese Sega cd with an American Genesis?
Bump. I would like to know too. SegaCDs are so expensive now.

region locked but should still work. you could just play japanese games on it if you know moon.
It won't work unless you are using a flashcart with region-free bios support. Sega CD bios detects the console region and refuses to even boot the game if console region do not match bios region.
Thanks guys. Let me make sure I understand correctly, I could play moon CD games but if I used something like an ever drive to boot USA bios only then could I play USA cd games?

I can. Not sure about you. It won't just work if you just plug them in without doing anything else if that's what you're asking.

Tell him what he has to do then. Or atleast link to it.

Yes, it solely depends on the BIOS.
What you boot the BIOS from doesn't matter, there's posts of people that replaced the maskrom of the BIOS inside the console with one burnt onto an EPROM.
Pretty sure in model 2 and 1's they're even socketed which makes it extremely easy.
There are also region free bios roms. The best region free ones you can get are the japanese ones since those contrary to others seem to boot everything fine.
You can also patch the region of the cd images and burn them to get around the region locking.
