Ebay has a very strict policy on reproduction carts. If you buy.

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Ebay has a very strict policy on reproduction carts. If you buy. Reproduction, you get a full refund and oftentimes keep the game. What is stopping someone from buying an authentic earthbound cart, then also buying a cheap reproduction on aliexpress. Then telling ebay they were sent that repro and if they do have to send it back, send the repro?
>>
>>4108458
A few reasons, kiddo. Ebay tracks multiple claims made by people. Ebay policy requires the original item sent back. And you're getting into federal crimes.
>>
>>4108458
Get a load of this dirt poor would be crime boss over here
>>
>>4108490
KEK.

Repros are one of the reasons I'm done collecting. What faggot chink wakes up in the morning and has a life mission to make that bullshit for autistic man children, who would rather have the original anyway. Fucking chinks stealing our money. Now you have white people trying to scam eachother. Good luck collectors.
>>
I distinctly remember some other anon talking about how he seeks out chink sellers who don't specifically say they're selling repros, then files the claim, and said sellers tend to not care about them getting sent back, so he was "ripping them off $5 at a time."
>>
Don't be shitty, end of story. This policy is in place to protect us, don't ruin it with greed.
>>
Can you sell repros if you clearly label it as a repro?

No you cannot.
>>

>>4108490
Relax, ladies. I'm asking because I'm scared to sell my more expensive carts on ebay for fear of this happening. I already got scammed by one guy as he filed "item not as described" even though it was. I offered him a full refund if he sends it back but he said no, and wanted a partial refund of 75%. Ebay sided with me so he escalated it to paypal, where paypal said okay if you send it back you get a full refund. He sent me an empty box and got his refund. I contacted paypal and they told me to contact the police. Ridiculous. I filmed my opening his empty box but for the $60, I don't think I'll take him to court.

The worst part is that when he bought the item he had me ship it to texas. He then shipped the empty box from mexico. Taking him to court, even if i wanted to, would be incredibly difficult.

I'm just worried about ebay overall now.
>>
eBay is a buyers market

I have been completely fucked by eBay also

Sold a phone, the buyer disassembled the fucking thing MESSAGED me stating he had done so literally admitted guilt and eBay still refunded him
I got left with a fucked up device and no money
Buyer got whatever parts he needed for free

I rarely sell anything anymore
People are corrupt degenerate faggots

Things weren't always like this, they changed the buyer protection sometime after 2007
>>
I just bought some pokemon gameboy cartridges that were clearly fake. I just didn't care, they were a not even a tenth of the price buying it for real.
>>
>>4108578
Got screwed over by a buyer also. Electronics seems to be ridden with fraud. I'm a top rated powerseller and now I only sell my niche product with very low costs.
If I were to start selling carts again, it'd be only under say $15. Too easy to rip people off to risk higher valued items
>>
>>4108726
What triggers me the most is you can't even leave the faggot buyers a negative after they steal your shit anymore
>>
>>4108736
Nor can you prevent 0 feedback buyers from buying. Got scammed once by someone with 0 feedback and account created that day. You can only block negative feedback buyers or some other useless cases. All I could do was block her username from buying from me again.
>>
>>4108496
I still pick up Saturn games but I'm just going to swap to a flashcart for other stuff
>>
>>4108590
I only deal locally now. It's annoying to have to meet people, and deal with lookyloo's who want a bargain, but it means I sell my shit and never hear back from them.

I buy shit from eBay all the time, but it's because it's a great place. If shits bad, or broken, you literally get to fuck the seller in the ass.

I've had consoles shipped to me, have their shells broken in shipping (still works), be 100% refunded, AND told to keep the stuff.

eBay is an amazing place to buy, but it's a fucking shitplace to sell.
>>
>>4108590
this man speaks the truth.

>be 2 years ago.
>have vintage IBM 5150 upgraded with maxed ram 40 meg hdd and a bunch of other upgrades.
>would have been a 10k machine in the 80s and still worth alot on the collectors market.
>sell on ebay for $500.
>buyer files refund as defective without even contacting me.
>get it back several weeks later.
>its just the empty case with ziplock bags full of sand inside to match weight, and a note inside that says fuck you.
>ebay does nothing and I'm out the money and computer.
>a week passes and I check to see what i can sell and empty case for.
>ebay pulls up results for every fucking component that was taken from my machine all from the same seller.
>buy it now every part and a dell precision laptop.
>confirm address is the same as the asshole who scammed me.
>convince him to ship it all together.
>once it arrives I file a return as defective.
>ship him bags of sand and a note that says "No, Fuck you"
>never sell any thing on ebay again.
>>
>>4109007
This never happened lol. If you wanted to take them to court you would easily fuck them and vice versa.

Also protip for expensive items: always price it higher than you actually want and leave offers open. This way you can actually screen the buyers' accounts and possibly communicate with them. I don't accept offers from anyone with less than a certain amount of feedback, less than a year old account, or responds in broken english. This won't guarantee your protection but it's a lot better than nothing.
>>
It seems kind of ballsy to try to scam people after giving them your address
>>
>>4108890
This. You will get fair ebay asking prices if you go through a local mom and pop store. Just don't go through shit stores like Vintage Stock.

Ebay is too risky nowadays.
>>
>>4109007
Thatta boy anon. If that's a true story. Which I doubt, but still.
>>
>>4109007
Tbh it's probably a true story

Small claims courts in the united States require a minimum item total of around $700 I believe

Plus the court fees

It wouldn't have been worth it to take the idiot to court

The police aren't gonna do anything as the seller probably used an ALIAS and a wrong address
>>
>>4108458
Nothing really but you don't even have to go that far. You can just say it was fake and file a paypal dispute and get your money back.

Like this anon said
>>4108484
if you do it too much you'll lose your paypal/ebay account, depending on who you are disputing with. You can't just create another one as it will get banned.

source: made my living off ebay before someone with hacked accounts bought shit from me and paypal thought i was in on it.

This is a really shitty thing to do though unless you're doing it to big corporation like Overstock or w/e.
>>
>>4109063
I currently have an Xbox listed on ebay, for pretty cheap (30 with hookups and 1 controller, buyer pays shipping).

Guy offered me 21, I countered with 27.50, then he countered with 21 again, so I countered with 27.50. Then he offered me 25, which is all I wanted. Before I accepted I wanted to be sure it was working... and to film it working just incase of shenanigans like this.

So I went to pull it out, and test it to make sure it's working. While I'm testing it, he rescinds his offer.

I really wish eBay was a better place to sellers. Bids in real auctions are binding. eBay bids and even Buy it nows aren't buying.
>>
>>4108458
>What is stopping
Doing it right. Jewbay is shit. Learn to protect yourself or get fucked.
>>
>>4109007
So, in other words, you got fucked on eBay and everything past that is a fictional "justice porn" story that you wished had happened.
>>
Jesus. Reading about this shit reminds me of why the /BST/ threads were so popular here before they got overrun with resellers trying to sell shit at Gamestop/Ebay prices+shipping.

Apparently ebay is just as much of a shitshow as craigslist, has anyone tried selling through VGPC's marketplace?
>>
>>4110482
I've been using the Offerup app for a while now, its great, its like craigslist with buyer/seller ratings.
>>
>>4110497
offerup and letgo in my area are spammed by this one guy "Got old video games? They're probably worth more than you think! Contact me for an estimate! If you have old nintendo cartridge games you are in luck!" x1000 the dude spams those two apps along with facebook marketplace and craigslist all day every day
>>
>>4110712
That guy for sure gets messages daily

I sell Amazon firesticks and "programming services" on those apps and get messages constantly

I've made 50,000 in less than a year
I charge everyone $40 a stick
And offer discounts on multiple devices

TV watchers are crazy
>>
>>4108578
That is incredibly fucked, and probably the most fucked ebay experience I've read about.

Shit like this is why I don't even bother to sell on ebay anymore. They and paypal give the buyer 100% rights and the seller zero. I don't see how such a site can sustain itself for the long term when it is based on having enough sellers to keep it going.
>>
>>4110138
The sad thing is even with video evidence of that machine working including showing the proper serial number ebay/PP will just dismiss it if the other guy bitches.
>>
>>4111601
The lure of money keeps sellers coming in. Others sell goods so cheap it's not worth ripping them off.
>>
>>4110829
I have no idea what you just said but I find it intriguing, mainly because I want to make 50k.

What the hell is a firestick and how do I get them cheap?
>>
>>4111601

A small portion are dishonest
>>
>>4110829

how many hours a week do you spend doing?
>>
>>4111721
Neither. He's just parroting tall tales he read on /biz/
>>
>>4111636
I know, but I feel like to the uneducated, it could be a deterrent from actually filing a return. I would never in a million years give someone a partial refund.
>>
>>4108527
I buy the $6 Mother 3 carts off of Ali and resell them for $12-15, and no one's batted an eye, I just emphasize REPRODUCTION in the title and description
>>
>>4108578

Sell your stuff on Craigslist then

Sell a little below eBay value cuz you won't get raped in fees, people will want to buy asap, and you just meet up in a Starbucks or McDonalds to conduct the transaction.
>>
>>4108458
Well for one if you do it way too much it's going to be really suspicious that you somehow keep ending up with repros of very expensive games. Another risk you run into is if the buyer you're trying to scam has been scammed before and now records their entire shipping process as a safety precaution which actually isn't an uncommon thing since ebay is very biased towards the buyer in most disputes.
>>
I thought ebay was fucking terrible for buying shit since everything is so goddamn overpriced
But these horror stories are pretty crazy, I'm going to steer clear of ever selling there and hopefully find a better place to buy carts from too

I figured you wouldn't believe me
But I have so many fucking receipts from best buy and have become an elite plus member

Sell the stick for twice as much as you bought it,
I spend about 30 minutes with each stick "working on it"

Just a side business all cash and trades
I traded one for a $400 watch from Macy's (citizen with diamonds probably stolen but I still wear it daily)

Also traded one for a ps3 and 20 random games (traded all the games at a mom&pop place for a complete in box copy of Zelda) {gold cart}
You don't have to believe me,
But keep in mind any time you resell items you have potential to gain profit

I have expanded my customer base in South bay area California and get calls and texts from ransoms all the time asking for more sticks

Word of mouth is a thing
I have no business cards

Have you ever taken anyone to court? You have to pay 100 court fees too. Plus you have to pay a cop about 100 dollars to go give them a summons.
Not to mention all the time and bullshit involved. Most people will not take the time unless its worth it. Plus there is a chance you will not win. A good lawyer can get your video from ever seeing the light of day.

>>4119539
Yep, and if you are deemed in the right the defendant is required to pay all court costs. Perhaps have experience yourself before accusing others of having none.

Most second-hand carts have identifying features that an owner would recognise.

I don't know how ebay deals with sending back the wrong item, but a seller always has your address and may feel compelled to pay you a visit if the item is expensive enough.

>>
>>4122694

>>
>>4122984
Depends on the repro. Most of the time they're 100% the same because all it is is a simple ROM file. However, sometimes you run into really cheap repros that don't come with a save battery, and saving won't work in those.
>>
>>4122694

Has nobody even answered the OP yet? Seems nobody understands.

OP is saying that you could buy an authentic earthbound cart and then file a claim saying its a reproduction. Then when ebay says you have to send it back for a refund, you send the seller a reproduction earthbound cart that you bought elsewhere.

Seems like it would work to me.
>>
>>4125404
There's no misunderstanding. It was answered several times already. I sincerely doubt OP is the first idiot to think of this scam.

>The buyer returned a different item than the one I sent. What do I do?
If the buyer returns a different item, or the same item but in worse condition, you should appeal to eBay immediately. We will review the case, and if we find in your favour we will repay you any funds which have been reversed from your account and record the incident on the buyer’s record. If a pattern emerges, we will take action on the buyer for fraud. We also will track the number of times a seller cases this happens, to monitor for potential abuse.

It happens so often Ebay even has a defined process for it. Maybe you'll get lucky, maybe you won't. But fraud is a pretty serious crime.

Yeah, I don't know how the market isn't full of dishonest people to be honest.

I mean... most of us wouldn't leave a $5 item laying out, because we would be worried about dishonesty and theft.

We're talking about hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Like... how good is the anti-fraud shit really on these 30 year old games?

I would never buy any expensive video games myself. I'd just play it online on some rom site if I wanted to play it that badly.

Is this legit?
>>
>>4126002

For things out of China, you'll be surprised. I don't know how it's done now but back in the day you had to know exactly what you're doing.

For some hot ticketed games like EarthBound, it is pretty devious to copy. Emulators don't encounter these problems, but copiers do. You don't half ass EarthBound when making copies of it because it has a few strong levels of copy protection.

Most copiers just turn on the counterfeit, check to see if >>4125854
isn't up, and assumes the game has been successfully copied.

It's also the reason why there were bad copies of Spyro YOTD circulating.
>>
>>4125476
You're confused bud.
With your logic, the scam can go in the opposite direction and the seller can just sell a repro for normal price and win.

OP is saying that ebay sides with the buyer when it's he said she said like this. And they do.
>>
>>4126732
The seller can't do it because buyer protection is much stronger, and Ebay doesn't tolerate counterfeit goods.

In this case, the seller may get unlucky and lose or they may get lucky if they have good pictured evidence and attach a police report.

As i said, Ebay is obviously aware this thing happens, which is the reason they investigate.

Perhaps it's easier to scam directly through Paypal? I'm sure they are much less likely to investigate properly.
>>
>>4126036
The cover art is cute.
>>

That's why you buy insurance to the value of your item. If the buyer claims that, you can then claim the postal insurance as the seller. The buyer takes the risk in that case since they are defrauding the mail company.

Actually, you just gave me an idea

>Buyer keeps expensive item and mails back repro
>Seller takes a hammer to repro and claims buyer damaged it, sends picture to Ebay
>.....
>Seller wins?

How often do reproduction carts get sold as originals?

No widgets whatsoever
The sticks have less than 1gb of available ram and run like shit even before running 3rd party apps

Pin things to the favorites instead (star in the bottom left)

Doesn't insurance only cover the item getting lost in the mail? If tracking shows the buyer got it what case do you have? USPS doesn't care if it's a fake cartridge or the guy is pulling a scam, their only job is to deliver it, which they can prove they did.

Nope it covers damage to the item as well. Of course the postman who delivered can say that it wasn't damaged, but then he can take that up with the buyer.

I stopped going to ebay years ago because of that kind of scam. I don't know how it is these days.
