strange games
Just the right amount of strange - to have some moments that make you go "wtf", but not so much that you could call It surreal.
This one's pretty crazy.

this is pretty essential "weird core" not very comfy though

I can't wait until we can talk about stuff like Chulip and Chibi Robo on this board.
A classic

these are some of my favorite games of all time
Gaball Screen.
Have you ever wanted to collect music sample CDs around the world just to see music videos? You haven't? That's probably because you're not a freakin flying sports shoe.

There's so much mystery and uncertainty regarding LSD's mechanics, has anyone ever gone into the source code and explained it in a way that makes sense? I can't find anything of the sort.
These games aren't strange enough. We have to go stranger.
>>4057520
I bought a Dreamcast microphone just to play this. Best money spent ever.
(Surprisingly, Mr. Driller also supports the microphone. You can drill by screaming at the mic. Super fun times.).

>(Surprisingly, Mr. Driller also supports the microphone. You can drill by screaming at the mic. Super fun times.).
Love how dreamcast games will do that sometimes. Like playing Soul Calibur with the fishing controller.
Does Pepsiman count?

The Late Bill Williams is known for pretty outlandish games like this, he did Necromancer, Alley Cat, this and his last game was Bart's Nightmare before he got pissed off by working on that and went into theology and then dying of cystic fibrosis in the late 90's.
Pretty unique puzzle game with a dark, vaguely horror aesthetic.
Basically a point-and-click interactive story, but it's weirdly dark and surreal, and at times Lynchian.
>>4060249
love this one

Forgot to say, it's called Gadget. I think Guillermo del Toro said it's one of his favorite games.

Agamemnon Counterpart - The Game
>>4060994
Tel Doro did say that.
The PS1 port is called Gadget: Past as Future, but all the written dialogue is in Japanese unfortunately.

I got a copy of Chulip for free, local game store didn't have a disc resurfacer at the time and the guy was gonna toss anything that was scratched. Thanks GameSack Dave for pointing this game out mere hours before I went shopping that day. I agree anon, there's plenty of stuff in 6th gen that shares an ethos with what is traditionally considered by this board to be 'retro' but people get little blood filled boners for rules, must be a /pol/ gene.
>>4057613
I hope /vr/ stays the way it is and we eventually get a separate /v2k/ board for games from the 2000s.
>>4062472
That'd be good too. I just wanna be able to talk about games that aren't pre-2000 or pokemon without having to try /v/z
>>4061001
unsettling. reminds me of Mohawk and Headphone Jack

It's like Jetset Willy meets Jetpac ON ACID!

Too bad the game isn't very good, though.
Oh boy! This game is so weird, guys.
>>4064193
I'm actually really enjoying this series, truth be told.

Fake
I always considered those here as something like the western equivalent of Eastern Mind:

>>4064193
are there any real games similar to this in any way?
>>4063976
Eh, they're not much better. They're barely any better at actual discussion with like twice the bitching and shitposting.
>>4064197
It was kind of cool up until the censored parts
E C C O
ultra balloon
>>4057613
>Chulip
One of the only games I've ever ordered direct from the publisher. I was (still am) a huge fan of Moon RPG and Chulip is by the same designer. I still have the keychain that came with it. Wonderful game! I don't think it actually got a release in stores but was direct from Natsume? I don't remember.
>>4059295
There's basically a faux corruption system where certain events trigger a higher chance of a certain texture set of the four or five sets to chose from, but the gray man resets this value on contact and games that avoid him start to combine sets and override colors and set off random in game events more often making the game even weirder. The music is also a single 'track' that gets modified as well.
Also the game ends after a year with a weird and underwhelming cutscene and that's basically everything worth knowing, there's nothing mind blowing or real secrets hidden in it.
>>4065460
And its hippy cousin.
>>4064193
I wonder how the series creator actually makes his videos. Has he written an actual 3D engine for the PlayStation? Does he run a game engine on a PC with a TV out and capture it for an authentic look? Is it all prerendered?
>>4066193
I remember reading somewhere that it was a Unity game he made that just looked like a PS1 game. I think there was some rendering things that Unity does but the PS1 couldn't that gave it away
>>4057520
Didn't this game have a sequel?
>>4057606
Underrated post. This game is the stuff of nightmares.
Now this is my kind of thread. Here's some truly weird shit.
>Bad Day at The Midway
Control multiple people as you explore a amusement park. It's a horror game with a lot of bizarre imagery.
>Harvester
A fucking terrible 90's adventure game. This is about as edgy as you get.
>Red Comrades Save the Galaxy
A Russian adventure game about Communist Russians stopping an alien invasion.
>Utsurun Desu.: Kawauso Hawaii e Iku (Famicom)
Platformer based on a gag manga. A game made to completely fuc with your perceptions of platformers, though it is pretty shit.
>Tass Times in Tone Town
Another adventure game. This one is just weird in general. It begins with you entering a portal and meeting a dog that is a news reporter in an alternate reality, just weird stuff.
>Tempo
AKA "the only reason to even really give a shit about the 32X other then knuckles chaotic", this is a great platformer with a music theme as the title implies. great animation and visuals.
>PO'ed
A first person shooter where you play as a cook aboard a spacship fighting aliens. Pretty unique visuals and very maze like.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwYYFjGtedw
>>4066193
It's Unity with a filter from their asset store. It's not a technical marvel, the environments in the beginning look like the tutorial games you make in the first 4-6 tutorials on Unity's homepage. The fixed camera angle and flat walls is the biggest sign.
>>4064880
If we're suppose to be watching a "story" unfold, it did break the the narrative to address us. Kinda like how, in a really tense, if we know this is a flashback/prequel/know the narrator is one of the characters, we know they make it, so the tension is DOA. Especially since, if the videos aren't being loaded AS they're played, that means that the uploader has a ton of footage that he's doing absolutely nothing with to build fake suspense.
>>4057575
a BLUE hedgehog? hedgehogs are naturally brownish gray!
Now I've seen everything!
I feel like this thread was made for me.
Here's a 3x3 of weird old games.
Bump, this thread is cool.
>>4059465
You can also play Mr. Driller with the Samba de Amigo maracas. Hours of fun.
>>4068908
Keio isn't weird, just regular cute'em up like Parodius and Harmful Park.
>>4057520
>Bought a Dreamcast and a microphone mostly just to play Seaman
>>I don't think the microphone works because no matter how many times I say "Hi" the baby seamen will not respond.
Feels bad.
>>4067664
Yeah, Japan only though.

I didnt know Irritating Stick was released for N64
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=il5UyzT-mZ0

Also, Irritating Stick for the PS1. It's not really weird though, just a video game version of a funfair game.

Did we ever get a plot synopsis or explanation of this game?
>>4071198
>I love echo-o-o
This is the worst of Newgrounds, only live action and a decade early. Major spoiler, watch first:...and it's their fucking recruitment video?!
Does Umihara Kawase count as strange?
>>4071954
Id work for them. Sad you cant have a work environment like this anymore. people are too PC these days
>>4073519
>Id work for them
Are you sure you don't mean "I'd hang out with them?" People definitely are too PC today, but these guys show no promise of making a good game or staying financially afloat for long.
>>4073616
good point. I dont make much money anyway
>>4057518
I own a copy of this, and the weirdo book that came with it
Pic related is kind of weird. Maybe not as off the wall as some of the other shit you guys posted, it's basically a Myst clone, but it's all based in ancient aliens and secret society type stuff. Playing it as a teen I got spooked at some points by how ominous everything felt.
Main guy responsible for the game sounded like a pretty intriguing guy, though from what I read he killed his wife and pets before committing suicide.
>>4074843
>he killed his wife and pets before committing suicide
The game sounded quite boring until I read that.
>Bad Day at The Midway
Soundtrack by The Residents, so you know you're in for prime strangeness (though Bad Day is honestly tame by their standards)
>>4064145
>If 4chan was a Videogame
I'm not feeling it. Maybe it's a bit like YTMND.
>>4057613
Does anybody know how or where to get this/play it?
I found some links but they were from 3 years ago. I don't know if I need something extra to run the game as well
