Is the Neo Geo Pocket Color the most underrated platform?
Even among my friends who are pretty knowledgeable about games most haven't even heard about it let only played it. Yet it has a great lineup of some real hidden gems and far better graphics than the GBC
>>
>Great lineup
>around 10 gimped beat-em-ups
>>
>>4045695
twas grteat 20years ago, balled like a pro with it,dont forget to member the cool joystick
>>
>>4045695
Aside from a decent semi port of sonic 2 and a bunch of watered down fighting games, the library was literally nonexistent
>>
>>4045734
A lot of the fighting game "ports" played very differently in interesting ways.
Match of the Millennium is amazing and KoF R2 is also really fun
>>
>>4045734
There's also the two Card Fighters games, Dark Arms, Faselei, two Metal Slug games, a decent port of Cotton, Biomotor Unitron, and probably a few others I'm forgetting. Not many games were released for the NGPC, but a remarkably large percentage of them are worth playing.
>>
There are about 10 or fewer games really worth playing/ owning. That being said it is a fun handheld with a very comfy form factor.
>>
>>4045695
Totally. I'm really into the NGPC community and love most aspects of the system. What I often see is people saying "MotM is the only fighting game you need" and while it definitely has the most content of them all, I'd say most of the other games play better. Last Blade and Gals Fighters in particular have better gameplay and strategy, even if they have less content overall. I also prefer KOF R2 and Samsho 2 to MotM but that's more debatable.

My favorite underrated game on NGPC has to be Densha de Go! 2. Really is the only portable game in the series to have passable graphics while maintaining the classic arcade gameplay. I was skeptical of the game concept initially, but once it clicks, pulling off a level flawlessly is so rewarding. I could talk NGPC all day!
>>
>>4045819
It is purposeful or coincidental that all the fghting games on the NGPC have weird little RPG elements tacked on?

yes
>>
>>4045695
Had the best portable fighting games until KoF EX2 and some PSP ports
>>
>>4045819

Is the gameplay from the PSP version too different?
>>
>>4045836
I think SNK was just trying to offer up more values in their games and like >>4045840 mentions, running through arcade mode alone without incentive isn't that fun. It is interesting how some of their fighting games like Samsho 2 and Last Blade have unlockable, collectible cards and items you can trade with other players. Seems out of place for fighting games but give both games more replayability than they should.
>>
>>4045840
>playing fighting games in 2 players mode by yourself to mercilessly beat female fighters
I do that
>>
>>4045862
I'm trying to think of a good analogy, bu yes, the PSP versions play very differently. Hell, even just on the PSP, there's two variations of the game. One variation is basically a glorified FMV game with prompts, and the other is more traditional arcade gameplay. I personally prefer the 90s arcade gameplay to later entries as later entries are too much like sims, to me. I also like the art direction in originals more.

fuck. off. no one gives a shit.
>>
What about the WonderSwan?
>>
>>4047998
Mostly jrpg console that stayed in Japan.
>>
>>4046353
I don't get it, why would you play an inferior 8bit fighter by yourself when Fightcade exists?
>>
Kids, don't play fighting games by yourselves. These games ain't even a good emulation of the arcade titles they're supposed to be a port of.
>>
>>4048015
>>4048023

They're not ports, though? Clearly you've never touched any NGPC fighters if you think their gameplay is supposed to emulate their MVS counterparts.

>Why play certain fighting games when different fighting games exist?
>>
>>4048027
>They're not ports, though?
Of course you an't port a Dreamcast game into an 8 bit system, the poor thing would collapse!
>>
>>4048027
The point is that you're playing by yourself, since finding another cart and link cable is gonna be impossible not to mention another poor sob willing to spend time mastering a portable 8 bit fighter with no active community.
These games are poor when played against the CPU, too, Arcade mode is over in 20 minutes and require you to beat multiple times ie GRIND in other to unlock cards with overpowered abilities that only break multiplayer even further.
>>
>>4048027
Ask yourself, is taking 20 minutes to beat the Arcade mode of a subpar port of a fighter on an overpriced handheld really worth it? We're in a day and age where you could easily emulate the PS2 on a cellphone.
>>
>>4048038
Inactive communities and piss poor CPUs are something you can literally say for 99% of released fighting games. Also, most NGPC fighters include more than just Arcade Mode. Try SNK vs Capcom or Last Blade sometime.
>>
>>4048040
Given that this particular handheld plays fighters better than any other handheld device in existence, yes. Why would I ever torture myself playing KOF on my phone?

>Overpriced handheld
You can get the system and KOF for $40 if you have any bit of patience.
>>
>>4048040
Yes.

Samurai Showdown 2 had tons of variety to encourage replay.
You had Slash/Burst modes for each character, AND you had collectable cards which gave you new moves and better stats.

King of Fighters R-2 had a mode where you'd collect and upgrade custom parts for your character and then you'd fight opponents under special conditions you would have to figure out.
Plus the arcade mode had secret characters to unlock.
>>
>>4045734
It's an original game not a port. And the fighters are good - that controller is wonderful.
>>
>>4048038
and like clockwork every time we have a thread about the NGPC this asshole has to come in and talk about how playing fighting games alone and/or getting a link cable for NGPC is impossible. are you holding onto a grudge from back in the day? did you have one of these and nobody else did?
>>
>>4048103
That's what he meant by semi port.
>>
>>4048126
The impossibility of ever setting up NGPC multiplayer in your own life due to lack of friends/autism is more pathetic, though.
>>
>>4048131
I'm sorry my old friends used to be into ACTUAL good fighters rather than this 8 bit travesty.
>>
Let's be honest here you won't be playing this with friends. You're playing a multiplayer game by yourself. That's sad.
>>
>>4048142
Did you ignore the plethora of single player modes mentioned in this thread, or? SNK isn't cheap like Capcom in regards to offline content.
>>
>>4048142
It has plenty of games that aren't even fighters though. Come on now.
>>
>>4048032
NGP is a 16-bit system, grandpa.
>>
>>4048183
Metal Slug, Cotton, Sonic and the zombie killing game.
>>
>>4048126
Telling people how they're 'supposed' to play games (with hacked together netplay, truly the way the developers intended) is actually pathetic.
>>4048140
Again, 16-bit.

I don't care. I'm gonna keep calling it 8-bit just to spite you.

It's fun seeing the characters interact though
>>
>>4048265
Also SNK Vs Capcom Cards Fighters Clash
Biomotor Unitron
Puzzle Bobble
Puyo Puyo
Faselei 2000
Neo Turf Masters
>>
>>4048298
You've just named the entire NGP library besides fighters.
>>
>>4048327
There's also Puzzle Link 1/2, Puzzle Bobble, Kikou Seiki Unitron, Dive Alert, Densha de Go! 2, Delta Warp, Ganbare Neo Poke-Kun, Ogre Battle, and others. I personally find the Casino games comfy, but totally understand most do not.
>>
>>4048340
Don't just "and others" on me, name some more games.
>>
>>4048345
Sure. Baseball Stars Color, SNK vs Capcom Card Fighters 2 Expand, Evolution, Crush Roller, King of Fighters Battle de Paradise, Pac-Man, Cool Cool Jam, and Cool Borders Pocket are all worth looking into. There's some untranslated RPGs and the aforementioned Casino games as well, but I want to mention games you can get into now.
