Since pre-rendered graphics aren't very loved by today's youth, due to it not looking good on modern displays, Mega Man will get the love with its sharp pixel art and flawless gameplay mechanics.
DKC games are, however, also amazing in gameplay department, maybe not as tight as MM, but close enough, and in its own way also, you're comparing an action-platformer with a pure platformer.
MM has the best action and amazing powerups and boss fights, but DKC has the most amount of platforming action due to its level design, and the controls are also responsive. This is not to say MM doesn't have god-tier platforming segments, but it's most designed around shooting and fighting enemies, DKC is more about the platforming (and the barrel).

Having played both series back in the day and loving both, I'll conclude that IMO, the MMX series is overall "better", but I consider DKC2 to be better than any MM game, not by much though.

Mega Man. Both trilogies have one GOAT game each, but I'd rather have Capcom on autopilot than Rare in peak decadence mode.

But you don't need to throw the barrel, and a crack in the wall might not be even necessary, many places have some sports that look suspicious enough.
Also, really though... these are just short bonus stages, it's not necessary to 101% the game to enjoy it, you are the one nitpicking, IMO.
But I do agree that there are 3 or 4 spots that are bullshit and you need to check a guide, unless you find them by chance which is very unlikely.

Mega Man X is one of the all-time greats. It's flat out better than 2 and 3, and crushes the DKC games in appeal. They're all great but if I had to pick one Super Nintendo game to play and I was only allowed to have one for whatever bullshit hypothetical scenario I'd pick MMX instantly without thinking about it.

They're mostly the same, almost to the point where it hardly matters given 1 and 2 have more interesting levels/locations.

I agree except for the final boss of DKC3, which is probably the lamest final boss fight in a mainstream nintendo game. The music for that fight is probably the best track in the game, though can't deny.

My favorite boss in DKC3 is Bleak. Was a really nice change of pace.

I've never used a guide for dkc but I've 101%'d it before. The really obscure ones I always find by making a platforming mistake and falling down a pit completely by accident, and instead of dying I'm taken to a bonus room.

But really anon, I can name tons of things that are great about Mega Man X. The music is great.

And it isn't a forgettable game. People are still talking about it years later. People that say its "forgettable" are clearly just ass-pained people talk about it. To claim its forgettable is just flat out incorrect and at best is a weak insult.

I love both series, but MM will always have an edge because I prefer the tighter controls and precision in the X games compared to the occasionally Janktown hitboxes present in the DK games.

DKC games were more challenging, MMX were probably more fun. Both had slightly underwhelming final installments. I don't think there's a better feeling in any of these games than controlling Dixie and maneuvering around shit with her spinny hair. MMX series definitely had a bigger influence on me though as far as taste in music is concerned
