Obviously triggered but I'm not seeing the problem here. It's just like doing repairs on your car to keep it looking nice and running. You gotta replace some parts as they get worn.
>>
Wasn't this the guy who posted the detailed explanation of "8 bit" some time back?

Applying labels to your own custom carts is Cool, but I really don't see the point in replacing legit labels with repros. I mean, for retail games, the only thing really worth displaying would be the boxes, and for non-retail carts (like NWC) part of the charm and collector value is the original, tattered label.
>>
Expected to cringe hard, but it could have been worse. Especially that Wrestlemania cartridge looked shitty to begin with. He messed up the colour of the Nintendo Logo though.

There is no problem. These are the kinds of people that probably have label repros in their collection right now but don't realize it.
Electronics wear out and need to be refurbed from time to time and its the price you pay for collecting what is essentially a plastic box with stickers on it.

However If you're an aspie chud and try this with a consumer level printer you deserve to be beaten senseless.

Anyone with a background in graphic design and printing, a little elbow grease, a steady hand and some talent can make an indistinguishable repro label which is fine.

Outside of "laminating" the labels I think he did the most smart thing.
Not even going soft on the guy, I honestly can't find a flaw in what he did, maybe if those had prettier labels or he was doing it to resell the games saying they where in good condition but since it's his personal collection I approve 100%.

The fact I was already subscribed to his channel doesn't mean anything either.

It isn't just ebay though, and not everywhere is so buyer-protective. But let's say even with such a guarantee it is very possible that someone buys them not realizing they are fake. Then some years later they sell them to someone who does realize they are fake. The new recipient gets his money back, and the guy in the middle gets retroactively fucked.

New labels should be easily distinguishable from the originals in some way. I don't have a problem with all new art or if it has "reproduction" in small print or something. Trying to make authentic 1-to-1 copies of the original is shitty as fuck if they ever have a chance of getting into circulation.

>>
>>4031891
missing the point if you think those two issues are similar at all. Replacing labels means a collectable item can potentially be faked (no collector wants a fake label and games with labels in good condition sell for premium prices) and put into circulation. Flashcarts don't lead to any confusion as to what is legitimate and what is not. A flashcart is obviously a flashcart, but a game with a fake label is not always obvious

This is underage troll tactic used by a lot of /v/ermin and reddit. Since a lot of their ecelebs are in the their 30s and 40s a lot are balding so it's an easy jab for them to make.

Not saying all attacks at men's balding are from underage but it's very popular and well I think you can guess from that kid's wording in his post he's underage. This thread like all the eceleb threads reek of underage. Mods should just use them as honeypots.

Any inkjet with over 600dpi is better than a dye sublimation printer (which is what was used in the 80s and 90s), provided the ink used in it is of a high quality. You wouldn't be able to see the difference, provided you used a very high resolution scan, unless you broke out a very powerful microscope.

Most modern inkjet ink is of sufficient quality for accurate color reproduction to reach 80s and early 90s level ink sublimation tech.

Dye cutting is required for those rounded corners.
>>
Why are collectors so obsessed with having products as they were fresh off the factory floor pretty much. Like its a hunk of fucking plastic what in their brain causes them to care so much.
>>
>>40338120
What's wrong with wanting products to look new? I like restoration videos because you can see what they may have looked like when they came out besides viewing low-res images from advertisements. Sure it can never be 100% accurate, but nasty yellow-tinted plastic and rusted metal isn't accurate either.
>>
>>4031818
There are plenty of acid-free archival quality tapes and laminates.
>>
>>4033817
if you're replying to me there is nothing wrong with looking new, I am talking about the people who freak out over non factory modifications. Like replacing a worn out label, who gives a shit about MUH ORIGINAL LABEL a nice looking piece in my collection of games is worth more to me than some sticker some company bought
>>
>>4033821
Oh my mistake, I thought you were arguing the opposite point. It's autism on both sides, some people want their stuff to look brand new, and some people refuse to touch any original parts regardless of whether they need replaced or not. And these two sides hate each other. Personally I like it when things look nice because it adds to the immersion because it feels like you just bought it recently.
>>
>>4033821
>>4033828
That isn't autism. That's called forgery. Like in any hobby you underage little shits.

Is what printing labels is.

>>
>>4033854
The main difference is only persons who pretend to resell those coins would give a fuck.
If you want to enjoy the product by using or displaying you would want it clean.

Same with the cart, relabeling just serves the purpose of identification, not to pass it as a perfect product in the free market.

I think the biggest issue in the collecting community is the inability of people to accept any other reasons for collecting than the ones they have themselves. The primary reason I collect is to immerse myself in how it must have felt to own it when it first came out. If that means replacing stickers, repainting or using something like Retrobrite that's fine with me. I don't really care if me altering collectibles triggers you, they're my shit. Nintendo didn't use dye sublimation printers to print labels in the 80s and 90s. It's very easy to tell the difference between an original label and an inkjet printed one.

So you're such a degenerate that you think someone can go and make fake labels legally?
Sorry kid but you are in fact breaking numerous laws if you do that. Whether they get enforced is a different augment.
>>
>>4032326
The only real reason you want to replace the label is so you can tell which cartridge is which. They do age due to light causing the colors to fade and moisture ruining the labels.
>>
>>4034230
Please tell me you're joking. As multiple people have pointed out, you can only be charged with forgery if you intend to deceive people. If you lie about something's authenticity and try to sell it. that's illegal. If you restore something to make your collection look nicer, that's fine. Restoration of an item has never been illegal as long as you don't defraud people.
>>
>>4034246

This used to happen all the time for VHS tapes. They had a tendency to break, so you did a minor repair (like taping the shit together), and then backed it up on another VHS tape. As long as you dont have intent to distribute, it's not a problem, even for stuff that's copyrighted.
>>
I honestly don't know how anyone could defend American, British or European IP laws. Companies kill games all the time due to sitting on the rights and never selling them. People are forces to resort to piracy, emulation or buying from a reseller just to play a game. Look at No One Lives Forever, it will never be released digitally because everyone is just prepared to sue everyone else. Its better to have no one profit than someone else profit. Current IP laws are pretty cancerous in practice.
>>
>>4034329
>I honestly don't know how anyone could defend American, British or European IP laws.
Because without them America would be a shithole. They do far more good then bad. One of the big reasons America has the top software and hardware companies also. Where as EU almost non existent IP laws for software have shot them in the foot in those fields.

Getting pissed about re-labeling is some coin-collector tier autism.

I thought the general consensus here was that only massive faggots give a fuck about the value of their collection. Why are people so triggered by someone not wanting to look at some super shitty looking label?

I picked up a copy of X3 a few years ago and the label looked like complete garbage. I got a replacement label off of ebay and re-labeled it so I didn't have to look at some nasty-ass cumstained looking label whenever I wanted to play some Mega Man.
>>
>>4039393

The consensus isn't that simple. Let me help.

Good:
>Playing games
>Preserving old games/systems
>Flash carts
>Emulation
>Elaborate or functional mods
>Having fun

Bad:
>Hoarding games
>"Restoring" old games/systems by using bootleg parts designed to look like the original
>Caring about the value of your collection
>Emulation
>Cosmetic mods
>Caring about what other people think
>>
>>4039434
He's still right because the entire relabelling issue is only addressed by the "bad" part of those who like retro physicals.
i.e. hoarders who care about the cosmetic properties of their/other's colecction and their impact on the value upon "restoring" it.

>Emulation in both sides of the consensus
In that case it's not a consensus and doesn't applies to any of those lists.

Still doesn't makes collectors the favorite faction in /vr/.
>>
>how to increase the value of your collection

True. Bandwagon collectors are nearly as bad as emubabies.
>>
>>4043308
True 90's kids are millennials, what the fuck are you talking about
>>
>>4040928

I wouldn't use rubber cement just for the simple fact it dries up over the years. Many art students who used it in their projects have had their shit destoryed/dried out because of it. I mean for repro label it doesnt matter, but for genuine labels that need a corner reglued I would stick with that purple elemers glue that comes on a stick.

Pretty much anyone with a specific lifestyle will look like that in their mid-30's if they live in the US. I have several friends who lived most of their live in the US and look exactly like that, they didn't look anything like that when they went there in their teens.

Millennials are people born from the early 80s to the mid 90s. Chances are you're one.

Shit some old NES games sell for hundreds of dollars. I saw a POSTER that game with a rare game going for hundreds of dollars by itself.

Why aren't people making fake labels and posters left and right? Can you even get caught? Just say "Item is sold as-is. No guarantees." on the eBay auction.

>>4048961
He's a dumbass who doesn't know anything about retro games (or most hardware) but considers himself an expert. He tends to cause a ton of damage whenever he attempts 'repairs.' He never does any research because he doesn't see the value in it. He feels a strong need to share his opinions on the internet, even when he knows they're wrong.

So yes, he's /ourguy/

He's the mascot /vr/ deserves.

He buys a lot of shit and doesn't play them. He's a "sealed in box to never be opened even if it's a really good game" kinda guy. He also plays everything on an HDTV excluding Lightgun and Atari games. He is unironically the most collectorfag of the collectorfag, always going on about surface level hidden gems that he paid twice the actual resale value for a mint copy. Fuck him, and fuck the people that support him.

I notice a lot of these "tech" "retro" channels on youtube are all balding reseller mac-fags. coincidence?
>>
I don't even have a problem with relabeling when the labels are that fucked, but the fact that he tried to recreate the labels rather than just use a high quality scan is fucking retarded.
>>
>>4049349

I had this experience as well, but I eventually gleaned that it's just some fat guy who doesn't matter.
>>
>>4039434

The consensus at 4chan is much simpler than this, anon. You're vastly overcomplicating. It's like this:

Good:
>nothing

Bad:
>existence
>>
>>4049931
High quality label scans are rare, outside of the ridiculously popular games. You pretty much have to beg on a forum for someone to scan their own copy.

His game choices were easy to replicate. He'd be fucked if the labels had hand drawn artwork on them.
>>
>>4049786

Have you ever watched his videos? He hates audiophiles.
Also I don't know that anything he does qualifies as "audiophile", literary uses shit and hacks.

They do. It's not hard at all to find reproduction Little Samson carts and labels for example. The problem is everyone knows that so they go for at max $40

By your logic only people who want to be PewDiePie should make YouTube accounts. You are literary newfag/underage cancer.

Does he even counts as a e-celeb?
I defend it because he is only a guy doing harmless things for his niche viewers and he accepts his lack of experience in some cases.
He gets shit on for not minmaxing his efficiency which I kinda understand but not at the point to call him a retard and I've definitely never seen him discussed out of /vr/ shit threads.

You didn't even read the thread?
>>

Whenever he has his fat retarded friends on they talk about their favorite series or games and they've never actually bothered to finish them
>>
I don't think he did a bad job. I tried looking up the wrestlemania cover and couldn't find a high-res scan. But if you're gonna recreate it you may as well take the low-res and overlay the high-res pieces on top.

Also packing tape has that right gloss and thickness. Seems better than using laminating sheets.

What would be the "proper" method of recreating labels?
>>
What was the point of trying to remove the old label? Can't you just buy blank NES cartridges and transfer the inner cartridge to the new one and apply the new label?
>>
>>4030937
i don't now why you get so fucking mad about this. I get the thing of cleaning the cartidge with baked soda and water was retarded as fuck but the whole thing wasn't so cringy.
Is just an old youtuber dude experimenting with old shitty games, does that really hurts you?

baking soda is abrasive so it can take gunk off things it isnt just for cleaning acids
>>
>>4057397
The stuff in household batteries isn't even acid anyhow. They're not called ALKALINE for nothing.

Cleaning your GB's battery terminals requires white distilled vinegar, NOT baking soda.
>>
>>4057407
still the abrasion works at taking off the rust baking soda is a very powerful cleaner
>>
>>4057432
SHUT UP, faggot.
>>
>>4057407
both work, one eats away oxidation the other removes it with abrasion
I'd prefer abrasion (soda) because if you overdo it with acid you're done

also, why did you bring out batteries? nothing to do with the shit here
