Why do I keep hearing that this is going to use hardware emulation?

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Why do I keep hearing that this is going to use hardware emulation? For $40? There's no way.
>>
It's the same mediocre famiclone system-on-a-chip hardware they've sold before, but now with a dirt cheap composite-to-HDMI upscaler stuck in it.
>>
>>3994160
>Hyperkin

No thanks. Stick with original hardware or a rPi/PC.
>>
That is ugly as shit.
>>
>>3994184
I fucking hate rpi, id but 6 AVS systems before one of those memes
>>
>>3994160
Is it emulation if it's verilog?
>>
>>3994334
Verilog is a hardware description language
>>
>>3994330
FPGA systems are fine, just expensive. I'd rather use a SFF PC. But anything is better than giving those faggots at Hyperkin money.
>>
>>3994160
Retron shill, please. Didn't you guys get memed enough with your wife's sons abomination?
>>
>>3994334
>my dad is verilog
lel
>>
>>3994390
We actually created that whole meme. Boosted direct sales 11%.
>>
>>3994160
Is this for real? The next after retron 5?
>>
>>3994160
do you seriously not know what a famiclone is? like can you be that stupid and still post here?
>>
>>3994160
>dware emulation? For $40? There's no way.

What drugs are you on? The Rockwell clone of the MOS 6502 goes for $3-$7 direct to consumers on eBay. When bought in bulk, I'm sure it can get A LOT cheaper. No other IC in that thing costs more than a dollar.
>>
>>3994160

I don't know shit about emulation desu. So I don't know why this would be a big deal.

Whats so bad about chip emulation as compared to hardware?
>>
>>3994334
This question makes no sense.
>>
>>3997351
>The Rockwell clone of the MOS 6502 goes for $3-$7
I've often considered, just as a hobby project, trying to build up a working NES, C64, 2600, etc. board from one of the Rockwell clones. Just to see how much work and money I'd have to throw into it.
>>
>>3997823

2600 used an MOS 6507, which was a crippled version of the 6502 that could only address 8k of RAM, but more importantly processing could be halted by the TIA chip. A straight 6502 wouldn't do that and can't be used.
>>
>>3994160
The audio on it is dogshit, no reason to buy it
>>
>>3994334

Is it edible if it's Java?
>>
>>3998204
I fail to see how a straight 6502 would be incapable of doing so, in any conceivable respect. As far as I can tell, the 6507 is a 02 with the smaller 28-pin set, the appreciable difference being the inclusion of the RDY pin for TIA beam racing. The pinout and instruction set is otherwise identical.

What am I missing?
>>
>>3998662

You IDENTIFIED what you're missing. The RDY pin. It's absolutely CRITICAL that the TIA can halt the processing of the 6507. Also, not sure where you would source a TIA chip for a homemade 2600 without cannibalizing something Atari.

Schematics are a hardware description language.

It does if you're not retarded like this guy.

Thanks for the giggles

>>3999085
So enjoy running games on your schematics. kek
>>

I apologize. They're even cheaper than I said.

can it play castlevania 3 properly?

Is there a clone system for games on disc?

I remember a chinese CD player/DVD that can read playstation games. But I never saw it working.

It's all bullshit marketing. Hyperkin has never made anything decent. I'd rather get one of these Chinese NES classic clones from aliexpress for $28 and mod it with an rPi than get hyperkin bullshit.
>>
>>3994334
Yes. It's still an approximation of the real hardware. The only difference between FPGA and software emulation is maybe hypothetically lower latency.
>>
>>3999664
I get them for under a buck but my main point was that rockwell parts aren't clones. They're fully legit legal licensed shit. But seriously, dude, how can you like know how to solder and still buy parts on ebay?
>>
So is this FPGA? Cause I don't know of any other kind of hardware emulation. It's hyperkin so it's most likely software if anything
>>
>>3994184
I bought one of their Genesis controllers a few years ago and the d-pad was stiffer than my dick when I first discovered porn.
>>
>>3994160
why not? you can buy famiclones from china for ~$10-$15
>>
>>3999061
Except that 6502s have the RDY pin, in all pin configurations. I'm quite puzzled as to why you think they don't, actually.

As far as the TIA goes, the schematics are available in several places. This makes fabrication rather trivial, especially in 2017. Of course you're right, I could cannibalize an Atari but that feels like it's not in the spirit of the thing.
>>
>>4000549
It's a NOAC with a built in scaler. I have one kf the earlier revisions, I believe they're all HAMY parts inside. The scaler actually does 240p correctly, and looks surprisingly good. Latency is good too, but the audio is fucked. up. on the early boards. Rumor has it the Gamerztek 8bit HD, and presumably this hyperkin have revisions with fixed audio. Still sounds like a NOAC, but they play the right notes. Mine is like ear bleedingly bad.

You're quite puzzled why someone who skimmed a Wikipedia page is instantly an expert?
