They make input lag worse.

Those kind of things are mostly designed for old VCR's and DVD players where input lag is irrelevant. It doesn't matter how much delay there is in something that has no active inputs.

Those are mainly for TVs without upscalers. They don't even claim to reduce input lag, it says so you can connect them. The device is the exact same as your inbuilt TV scaler, it might be a little better or worse.

How would inserting another stage of processing into the chain possibly reduce input lag (rather than increasing it more)? Laws of physics don't work in reverse.
