It won't explode if you open it but CRTs are front mounted and 99% of consumer CRTs are going to be screwed directly to their existing bezel.

I agree that ones with silver bezels are somewhat distracting especially if the silver goes up to the very edge of the screen which a lot of the good newer consumer Trinitrons do.
