You know, Shadow Madness had pretty good writing and story. It's kind of a shame that Ted Woolsey didn't get to write for more games.

Always wanted to play this game. Going to download it. What I am in for?
>>3955569
Starfox 64 was better.
>>3955569
Agreed. This is the most underrated JRPG (JRPG is a genre not a country of origin).
>>3955920
>Japanese Role Playing Game
>Japanese Role Playing Game made in America
This is dumb.
>>3955569
>You know, Shadow Madness had pretty good writing and story.
>good writing
Is this supposed to be a joke?
>Hey you know what game was good? Final Fantasy 7. Let's make a game like that.
Shadow Madness is a game that has actually probably gotten BETTER with age. There was so much great stuff and big progress being made in the genre that there was always something fresh coming out back in the day but now that people find shit they love and dig for more, me-too games like this become more relevant.

>(JRPG is a genre not a country of origin).
If that were the case then the term Japanese Role Playing Game shouldn't even exist since they started out as games that were a combination of Ultima and Wizardry both of which are cRPGs.

I have never seen this game posted anywhere but I adore it. Picked it up for five bucks when I was little at a walmart bargain bin and have never looked back. The only problem with this game is that this one part in the pyramids - with Zero and Harv-5, I think - has a part where you can get permanently stuck. So play with multiple saves and be careful before that part if you play this.

What aboutrole playing game?
>>3957079
Too broad. They are pretty much two separate genres with a common ancestor. Compare first-person, third-person, light gun, etc. shooters.

>order McDonald's in Japan
>Uguu! I rike Japanese food!
>>3956839
Everyone else just says jrpg. Arguing about it is pedantic and boring.
>>3955569
Is it a JRPG if it wasn't actually made by the Japanese?
STOP CALLING IT JAPANESE RPG YOU FUCKING RETARDS
>>3958560
Asian RPG?
It means Japanese-style rpg you retards
>>3955920
>>3956839
I think it's easier to just call it an FFVII-clone. It's a small category that Shadow Madness shares with Alundra 2, maybe others?
>>3958576
If it's not made in Japan it shouldn't be called Japanese at all.
>>3958565
Asian American RPG

>those portraits
I played very little of it when it came out, I remember a friend who was really hyped for it...
the CG BGs were so uninspired, the artworks were really amateurish too, probably didn't play more than 15 minutes top...
Is the story actually interesting?
I played this game when it came out and finished it, but I don't remember anything about it at all.

>maybe others?
Septerra Core
Anachronox
There is also a ton of RPG Maker inspired or """inspired""" by FFVII. A Blurred Line is probably the best and not a total rip-off.I wish it were finished.

*a ton of RPG Maker games

Haven't played those, I'm thinking more visual. There's also Fatal Fantasy VII for the Net Yaroze, which I guess is less a clone and more a fangame.
>>3959107
That looks good. I didn't play this game at the time, and now I kind of regret I didn't. I am not sure I'd call it an FFVII clone in terms of visuals, though. The characters and the overall graphical style remind me more of Mega Man Legends.

sorry, wrong thread

Using that logic we can't have phrases like french dressing or chinese food.
>>3959626
Not that fatal. Bathroom and last scenario capture the FFVII atmosphere pretty well.
>>3959107
What was that game, i think it was a PS2 game, that was more Alundra than Alundra 2?
Dual Hearts?
>>3960258
Possibly? Same developer so it's likely. I've never actually played the first Alundra, just the second, and Dual Hearts is one of the few early PS2 jrpgs I've never had a copy of.
