Can you blame them? Ever looked at the shelf life of a random western developer, many produce a small handful of games and get bought out and employees laid-off or their contracts are cut arbitrarily and they close overnight. The publishers are out to screw you, might as well screw them first.

Nigga Tresspasser was simultaneously the best and worst game ever. They shot for the stars. That's way more interesting than the derivative wave of Doom Clones and mascot platformers from the late 90s. If developers took more of those kinds of risks we'd be much better off.
