It doesn't deserve as much love as it gets but it also do doesn't deserve the hate it gets. It's bland but fun.

My main gripes with it is that the plot sounds like it was made up as they went along. The big bad is never mentioned till the last fourth.

That's not true. They started talking about him as early as the third disc but you didn't know he was the big bad until the fourth disc

Localized version is alright, Japanese version is good. The translation reads like shit and the localization reduced enemy health and buffed item magic damage, which makes the game a joke.

10/10 game, great JRPG, Meru my first VG crush

Unlike most fans, I think it's fine as a standalone piece. It was succinct enough that it'd be tough to expand upon it without marring it and not everything needs a billion sequels/prequels

Used to be damn near any JRPG you picked up for PS1 was 8/10 or higher and there were a LOT of them. Miss those days. Sometimes I'll still find something new in the PS1's JRPG library that blows me away.

Pretty straightforward Disney-esque romance. A tad cliche but not outright bad.

I think LoD is a flawed game.
The battles were slow as molasses, the battle system could have needed more work, dragoon magic was useless (especially compared to magic items) and in combat characters were really split into "fucking good use these" and "fucking bad never bring them into fights" (Albert replacing Lavitz in particular was a load of shit).

However, it is one of my favorite and most played JRPGs and I am glad I got to play it back in the day. I still have my physical copy and should probably play it again one of these days.

Not too many games go so far with their world building as to have a creation myth, and I particularly like LoD's? All the world's species being born from the fruits of a giant tree? That's just fucked up enough to pass off as an actual creation myth from some real ancient culture.

Albert made the best tanky character imo. I used him more than kongols bitch ass. Also rose storm was great. He was also pretty fast for a tank.

Also I liked the length of some of the boss fights. You really felt like you had to earn the victory. After a long drawn out battle where you're getting fucked up you finally kill the bastard, even if I had to get mad and throw my controller several times and reset the game a handful of times. Dart actually feels like a hero unlike a lot of other rpgs I've played. I just hate how shana and that other girl don't get additions and just shoot an arrow.

I found it hilarious the way the game transitioned between Shana and Miranda. No cutscenes no lead up, just Hi Im Miranda and whoooooop the spirit just fucks off away from Shana without a shred of hesitation

My biggest gripe was how few items there were in the game, and how few you could hold. Potions/antidotes/magic items/equipment are all very standard and shallow. The accessories were nice though
