In my experience, programmers usually have terrible writing/editing skills. Part of me wonders if it's because of the nature of their work.

If they fuck something up in their code, it's flagged in some way, or the program just doesn't compile properly. Very cut and dry. But shitty spelling/grammar in a message isn't going to fuck up anything in the actual code, so it "works" in the programmer's head.

As another programmer, style, grammar and spelling are highly important to me both in English and in code. I don't make grammatical or spelling mistakes often, and when I do I correct them as soon as they're noticed. I also take pains to document my programs, including writing verbose help output or manuals as the situation requires.

Probably explains why I like Perl so much -- it was designed by a linguist. Many other programmers I know are also really skilled with language, but they're all Linux or BSD programmers, typically using POSIX shell, Perl, C, or Lua. Windows programmers, on the other hand...

Due to a quirk in Mortal Kombat's arcade hardware, text was not stored as single letters, but in 16x8 pixel pairs of two letters + the apostrophe, dash, period and space. However, they only had enough room for 512 out of the 1000 combinations (30 * 30, + 100 for numbers). They got around this by carefully designing text to only use one of those 512 combinations, but "AC" wasn't one of them. Presumably they couldn't find a better replacement for "treachery", so they left it in.

This is also the reason for the "NO VIBES, NO BEVIS" sign in Bebe's Kids.
