The PC versions have higher res backgrounds.

Also the PC re-release by Sourcenext has uncompressed FMV.

PC versions also offer both western an Jap difficulty and have 2 extra costumes, and make for easy 'cheating' (like starting with any weapon you like etc)

See for instance the Dino Crisis poster here in the background. It was hardly possible to make out what it was in the PS1 version.

and the PC versions have virtually no loading time. No more split second loading time between camera angles make gameplay a lot smoother.
Also you can skip door animations, which in RE3, on top of being able to skip cutscenes, make things super fast.

Another example of the hirer res background. The photo portraits here, you're not supposed to be able to recognize the people, turns out they were from famous American actors.

I'm playing through Dino Crisis for the first time and finding it pretty underwhelming. The sterile looking hallways, labs and computer rooms aren't an interesting setting and the puzzles are pretty lame. I'm a huge RE fan but I'm afraid Dino Crisis just isn't my bag.

probably means easy and hard mode which existed in every copy of RE3

also neat little fact

jill actually drops a magazine when she reloads the assault rifle
>>
>>3901635
>>3901659
Not. Both Jap and Western versions have easy and hard, yes, but the Jap version of RE are easier.
As far as RE3 is concerned, there isn't actually much difference. IIRC Jill has more HP, Nemesis has less. Pretty much all I noticed. Also I think the Jap "easy" gives even more weapons but I'm not sure.

As far as RE2 is concerned however there are a lot more differences, for instance a lot of ammo / herb placement is different and easier to find in the Jap version (in plain sight in the middle of a room, visible on screen, versus have to press X on dark corners in the Western versions until you stumble on something).

>>3901429
>>3901424
IIRC the backgrounds are just JPG files you can fiddle with. I wouldn't be surprised if you could take the Sourcenext version BGs and paste them in the original PC versions, perhaps even the FMVs too.
>>
>>3901723
>>3901635
>>3901659
And thus, what the PC versions of RE2 and RE3 mean by "Arrange" or "Normal" mode is in fact "western" or "jap" versions.

Things might be reversed in the Sourcenext version compared to RE2/3 PCs though, as in "Arrange" behind Jap in RE2 but being "Western" in Bio2/3 Sourcenext, but I might be remembering this wrong (would make sense though)
>>
>>3901442
I'll give you that. Running from a pair of raptors is fucking intense. I just wish the gameplay was a bit more exciting outside of dino encounters.

There is this high quality mod for the PC. The backgrounds are definitely the highest I've ever seen, though I have no idea where they are sourced from. Does anybody know?

Damn this looks nice. I don't know how they do it. According to the video, it claims that resolution of the background is fucked when displayed in game, and so I guess they found a way to have the backgrounds as is, using the sourcenext ones as a base.

While the improvement is obvious, it just makes a 17 year old game look like a 15 year old game. If you are sitting on a couch with at least 6 feet between the tv and you, it will look the fucking same.

And for close-up PC gaming its still blurry as fuck.

Is this a finished product or an announcement?
>>
>>3903598
I think the blur comes from the video.

Download says v0.8 so it looks like it's unfinished but it doesn't say how much is done in the description.
>>
suppose this is a better thread than any, but I have to say, the RE1.5 project is going along amazingly

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvMXZdNRGCs

>>
>>3903598
The talk is centered around the PC experience so no one's going to to play 6 feet away, as close as 1 foot is more realistic.
It wouldn't be as much of a problem if the difference of the level of detail between the 3d models and the backgrounds wasn't so big. Sitting close to a big screen exaggerates this and takes out of the experience.

>>3903575
>it claims that resolution of the background is fucked when displayed in game
I checked out the Sourcenext release and the engine seems to scale images that will be drawn in front of characters at different resolutions. It's very obvious with staircase rails. They are incredibly jaggy compared to whatever is behind. Those types of images might be at lower initial resolution than what will be drawn to account for additional alpha channel. But that still doesn't tell how else of the static image gets shitted.

The Sourcenext versions have no compatibility issues.

For the previous version, for RE3 you may have to untick a settings in the option for the bg to show up properly. Takes 2 seconds. For RE2 you may have to run in compatibility mode and to do a simple task if the saves don't work.

Even RE1 may run flawlessly depending on your computer.

Wow. That was hard. 2 mins spent which lead to 100x more time saved thanks to the absence of loading times.
>>
>>3905589
>The Sourcenext versions have no compatibility issues.
They're also not fully translated.

Right. Fix some backgrounds while others remain broken.

With a 66MHz Pentium, or something like that. Anything faster and it's fast as fuck.

It's HELL playing the PSX versions after getting used to the door skipping (and the better graphics) of the PC version.
>>
>>3905630
> Fix some backgrounds while others remain broken.

What? Do tell what issues you've had because it sounds like you're just talking out of your ass here.

>On a Windows 95 system.

Last time I ran RE1 PC, it was using a quadcore and windows7. Played perfectly fine, at the right speed too.

>What kind of impatient pleb skips the door loading?

I'm not even talking about the doors here. I'm talking about the other loading times, like the ones you have every single time there is a camera angle change, every time you open up the inventory, every time you open the door again, not talking about the door itself, there is a load time before the door even shows up and at the end too, etc
>>
>>3905653

Which one do you have?

I got the 3rd one, middle row in this pic here. The cover opens up, cool as fuck.
For some reasons I also have the disc a 2nd time, sealed.

I used to have RE2 PC European big box too but my mom trashed it when I entered Uni and moved out even though it was hanging as a trophy in the room.
>>
>>3905806
I've only got the jewel case for the original NTSC-U/C release

I had the manual but I seem to have misplaced it

a bit ago I bought a lone disc 1 of the original american release of RE2 for PC, and I just won an ebay auction for the original RE1, too

how much do those big boxes usually go for? you seem to have quite a few of them
>>

the pauses are garbage and you should be ashamed for advocating inferior versions of games to people
>>
>>3905835
Sorry that's not my pic, I only have one that's 3rd in the middle row.

Last I checked they went for at least 50 bucks CIB but I havent checked in a while.
