>Let's go to blockbusters! You can rent a game!

I miss that scent of walking into blockbusters... just looking up and down the aisles trying to find something that can catch my interest...

Blockbuster didn't exist in my country until much later, and they only carried N64 games (and sometimes SNES, but it was already past the SNES' time).
I remember renting on Blockbuster, but I have better memories of being even younger and going to local mom and pap video clubs and renting bootleg Famiclone stuff.
M.C. Mario was the shit.
>>
I miss video stores in general
My local store had over 90,000 titles
How many does a streaming service have?
>>
Remember when Blockbuster could have bought Netflix for fifty million bucks? They declined because it was a "niche business". That never fails to put a smile on my face.
>>
despite their shitty quality, i remember renting a lot of psygnosis games that were basically the same. futuristic, do some mission in an open world. they tended to be very difficult to control. i wish those games would make a combeack, now that the technology is better, and there are some standards in terms of the controls. who colony wars here?

the family with kids who would buy shitloads of candy--i always looked down on them. probably because my dad, being married to a chronically obese SJW, had a thing against sugary, fatty foods. fair enough.

despite being exposed to a bunch of shitty games, i wouldn't trade going to blockbuster for the world, besides, that's how i discovered mmx3, chrono trigger, super mario rpg...

how come steam can't rent games to you?
>>
>>3895454
When the sales come, the price of games is often less than renting would be in the first place.

Which is why people end up with a bunch of games they never end up playing.
>>
>>3895416
What the hell even was this game? Was it just a bootleg of an actual Mario game, or something else?
>>
>>3895417
Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime combined have less than half that many movies. Are you certain about that number, it wasn't counting every copy separately? The MPAA doesn't even list 90,000 movies.
>>
>>3895463
That's not what I mean, though. I want to rent brand new >AAA games. So I can be pissed about them.
>>
>>3895417
Does "the internet" count as a streaming service? You can find almost anything you want if you're brave enough.

I thought you could rent games on PSN.

have you tried GameFly™?
>>
>going to Blockbuster
>not your local VIDEO STORE/VIDEO RENTAL/VIDEO ______
>the one with Puzzle Bobble or Metal Slug in the back and a red curtain hiding the porno
>>
I wish video stores were still around because I used to use their disc repair machines.
>>
>>3895469
You are right, I was wrong. I just looked it up
It had over 100,000 titles
Foreign films and TV might not be in the MPAA count

>>3895476
>Internet
is a new format
In every format change, some titles are never converted to the new format
I saw this happen from vinyl to CD, from film to VHS, from VHS to DVD, and from home media to the cloud
I'm glad emulation is around, or it would be even worse in video games, since they are a new art form and considered to be more disposable
>>
>>3895497
Yeah, i loved that sex curtain.
We used to rent N64 consoles when they were to expensive to buy.
>>
>>3895454
>how come steam can't rent games to you?
You wouldn't rent a car
>>
>>3895453

I vaguely remember being aware of a sentiment that Blockbuster was the big bad guy coming into town and knocking out the mom-and-pop stores. I was too young to remember the details, or when our local Blockbuster's even opened, but I know that the local shop went under at some point. Funny how much things changed in what was really a short period of time.

Redbox has games. In fact, those AAA games that you can be pissed about are the only games they carry.
>>
>>3896214
Whoa, Redbox is still a thing?

I miss blockbuster. I remember the good times renting PS1 games every weekend.
It's especially hard for me because the spot where it was is so close to my home, it's like a 5 min walk.
Now there's an organic food store there. I still go there from time to time and it hurts.
>>
>>3896254
Redbox is everywhere. They have a shitty selection, but that's all the general public is interested in.

my local store had over 80,000 unique titles

streaming is inferior when it comes to choice of titles but convenience > everything for millennials
