When I first played Dragon Quest 1 it felt massive, even though it's as small as my dick.
What others games gave away this illusion?
Most of the zelda games, especially the handheld ones

It does a good job at being massive because of the lack of artificial walls. Other than visiting new towns/dungeons there isn't much to do but that was more than enough back in the day.
Makes you think how we evolve in circles. Given the limitations of the 80s, you could perfectly call this game an Open World.

You could get surprisingly far at level 7 (with sleep spell). You can take on the green dragon and the axe knight with some lucky sleeps and nab Erdrick's Armor super early.
The only reason you have to wait to level 17 to finish the game is the healmore spell. It is easier to wait to level 18 as it relies on less blind luck to win.
This map still seems huge. Like completely dwarfing the original game's map.

Starflight 1 and 2 .And Star Control 2 which was about twice as big as SF2?
>>3894546
That was pretty cool, as soon as you started the game there was nothing stopping you from going straight to pick up the 2-3 items needed to reach the final dungeon and beat the final boss, other than the strong enemies.
pokemon gen 2, although that may be actually large
morrowind just because you move slowly and can't truly fast travel

Big Bang Theory: The Game is retro?

Okay someone explain this guy's logic to me because I'm seriously thinking he just picked a random hated thing and added "the game" to itwhich you just lost

The term "Bazinga" is older than BBT, mate. I remember hearing it in the late 90s.

Incredible, thanks for the trivia! Did you Mario 2 was originally called Doki's Pancake in Japan?
>>3895083
>Doki's Pancake
No, Super Mario Bros 2 is actually a Famicom Disk System game called Doki Doki Panic which was reworked to have Mario characters in it. The Japanese SMB2 was deemed too hard for western game players, but they did release it later as part of Super Mario All Stars as Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels.

the oracles were better than link's awakening imo

I like how you immediately resort to shitposting to detract from your juvenile sense of humor.

Whoa! Also did you know that Mario's dad Wario has a upside down M on his hat, in reference to Mario's hat which has a M on it?
>>3895092
this was my shit
my sister got the water dude
and I got the kangaroo dude
and we both couldn't figure out what to do after that, so we spent most of our time doing the dance thing in the underground place

I loved the oracle games when i was younger, but i find it hard to go back to Ages now because of all the mandatory minigames. Seasons has always been my favorite of the two, even though the dancing minigame is also annoying.

The first time I played this, it seemed massive. I think it's just all the backtracking. Once you arrive at the coliseum, it doesn't really take that long to trek all the way back to the beginning, going through a quick detour of every other area in the game in the process.
There are also no "dungeons," per se. Just a handful of interconnected areas like the mines and barracks.

Best example, coming through.
Seriously, Midgar felt MASSIVE the first time you play through it. In retrospect though it's only like 10 screens plus reactors and shinra building.
