Besides having the actual Vectrex layers is there anything else

You can print your own using transparencies then painting the opaque parts white then laminating them. Still ends up pretty expensive though.

You can do whatever you want but if you don't use transparencies you won't be able to see the screen so there doesn't seem like there would be much point.

You can always see the Vectrex screen without using the overlays. For the note the overlay providers about the controller buttons just download a copy of the overlay and/or a game instructions. If you wan lower cost overlays then check out this AtariAge forum thread
