I got one of these, and it isn't so much simulated stereo as it is just splitting the mono to output to both left and right channels separately. It's actually perfect for my setup since in my setup I use a set of PC speakers for sound.
The cables themselves are actually good, proper thick shielding and the plugs won't bend.

Just plug the audio jack into the white hole. It should give you mono through both speakers. All of my CRTs have been like this.

Stereo modding the NES is the dumbest shit on the planet. It sounds like garbage because it was in no way designed to have stereo sound. Movement between channels can not be automated, it's like listening to the garbage stereo mixes of Beatles records with all the vocals in one channel and the instruments in the other, it's just dumb.

That was back when panning audio between both channels wasn't a thing, every artist in the 60s did the same thing like Frank Zappa who was one of the few at the time that recorded for "Stereo" sound. Even some more contemporary artists that want a more retro sound will mix their audio like that to recreate the "feel", off the top of my head I can remember that The Coral's first album was mixed like that.

And besides, a lot of SNES music is mixed like that too. I didn't realise until I got a PVM with external speakers but composers who made games for it were defiantly trying to show off the Stereo sound because some of them have ridiculously separated channels like Yoshi's island where the drums are on one channel

I'm totally aware of that. The point is that the SNES/GB/Genesis, etc hardware is all capable of doing real stereo, and it's up to the composer's discretion how they want to do it, it can be subtle, it can be in your face (or ears), but it's an artistic choice. Adding a pot to arbitrarily separate audio channels that weren't meant to be separated sounds so shitty with the NES and is 100% 'not how the composer intended'. It literally compromises the composition.
