If you could turn back time to when you first started collecting, what would you do differently?
>>
>>3858695
Hug my dad at least once :(
>>
Finish the job.
>>
>persuade my family to bet everything they own on every sporting event I know the result of
>profit
>>
The cool game store in Lynwood WA had an Earthbound for $30 that I always regret not picking up.
>>
>>3858708
>>3858698
I mean related to collecting friends.

I'd *not* do it at all to begin with
>>

>>3858695
Bought a NES with 12 games a year or 6 ago but sold all of them not much later. Especially regret it because some of them like Super C/Probotector II became thrice as expensive by now ...
>>
>>3858695
I would:
>buy multiple copies of all the rare as fuck games when they were cheap as fuck
>I'm talking boxes of little samsons and shit|
>also
>contact the guys who sold Pat the NES Punk their NWC carts
>either buy them myself, or tell them Pat is just going to resell them for a profit
>>
>>3858695
Adopt a wacky personality and start a youtube channel before it gets popular. Buy up as many copies of a game as possible before I release a video about it.
>>
I would've started collecting NES, SNES, and Genesis games about 10-15 years earlier. And I would've made sure I got a copy of Conker. :'(
>>
Buy more when it was cheap
>>
>>3858695
Not much. There's a few things I wish I'd done different. But I started long ago and picked up multiple dupes of all the meme games and consoles when they could be found for a few bucks. I've got thousands of games, nearly 200 consoles, and accessories that would make most people here jizz their pants multiple times. I'm pretty much fine with how things turned out.
>>
Save boxes and manuals, import more, read more reviews so I could find quality games
>>
Not selling half my game boy collection to Funcoland.
>>
>>3858695
>turn back time to when you first started collecting
>NOT turn back time to when games were cheap as fuck
go the flashcard route and evade collecting games entirely
buy a framemeister and not 6 or 7 cheaper alternatives
fix my first BVM and don't start to collect more CRTs because it wasn't working
>>
>>3859846
>started collecting after flashcarts were available
If bandwagon collectors had just said fuck it and got flash carts from the start the vidya world would be a much better place.
>>
Too late during the end of my first phase of collecting I sold my collection cause of financial reasons then slowly started collecting only games that would give me a richer gaming experience therefore something that would last longer
>>
Keep track of all of my games. I have the boxes and manuals for a shit ton of games but have absolutely no idea where the games are. Last summer I went through the attic and garage looking for them, and all I found was one Atari 2600 game, and even more boxes and manuals. I lost track of them around 2012, and haven't found any of them since.
>>
I used to buy NES and SNES carts at EB Games for like $5 a piece. That was considered a rip-off for old games back then, when disc-based systems were the hot thing and when you could buy huge boxes of people's old games at yard sales for next to nothing.
I was pretty young and didn't have very much of my own money, so I would buy like one game at a time. Some time in the 2000s they stopped selling them and that was that.

At the same time I was buying a pitiful handful of games, I probably spent hundreds of dollars on useless bullshit like a huge remote control car and a black and white security camera I bought at Radioshack. I wish I'd dumped that shit and just spent the money on clearing out the whole crate of nintendo games!

Of course even better would've just been to troll the garage sales constantly for the houses of older kids who had gone off to college and left all their old games in the basement for their parents to sell alongside the junky trappings of suburban middle class life. But I'm not greedy, so let's not push it.

>Adopt a wacky personality and start a youtube channel before it gets popular
Best plan. If you succeed you become famous and earn an income for doing literally nothing, and if you fail you have a chance of nipping the whole "youtuber" bullshit in the bud.
>>
>>3859229
Are you one of those old guys with long hair who has a literal warehouse of games, consoles, accessories, and memorabilia that is ostensibly "for sale" according to dozens of local craigslist ads, but that you've never actually bothered to inventory or price?

Are you that old guy in Sacramento?
>>
Wouldn't have sold my collection of every Nintendo console and a DC all with close to every flagship title for like $400 ten years ago.

You sold them to buy drugs, hence the memory problems. lol

>>3860605
No. I'm one of those old guys with short hair, in places it'll still grows, who has a figurative warehouse of games, consoles, accessories and almost no memorabilia that is ostensibly not for sale but available for everyone I know and their friends and family to play and even take home to keep if they show a genuine interest. I have'nt bothered to inventory or price but I have a pretty good idea of what I have because I grew up in a time when people were able to do math in their head and remember peoples phone numbers.
>>
>>3858695

I would do rihanna differently
>>
>>3860786
I see, so I guess you don't also sell porn and bootleg DVDs.
>>
>>3858695
Buy/mine buttcoins.
>it *has* to be retro, faggot

Gah, fine.

I would keep all of my vidya(instead of stupidly selling most to gamestop), actively hunt store and garage sales, and probably try to trade around for more games.
>>
I'd buy the games I regret not buying, even if I justified it then by "I don't really like them" or "I don't feel like paying that much."
>>
>>3860809
Stay mad kiddo
>>
>>3858695
my family has a curse of not being prepared.

>tfw my son also has this curse
>>
>>3860598
Yup that was my thinking!
>>
>>3858698
:(
>>
Not collect at all. Now I have flashcarts and couldn't be happier.
Collecting Saturn complete in box games was one of the darkest times of my life.
>>
>>3858714
Lynwood Western Australia?
>>
>>3858695
read that as
>If you could turn black in time
>>
Nothing really. I have a nice CRT and more games than i could ever want
>>
>>3858695
I would've bought more PC Engine games before 2000. I wouldn't have sold Vandal Hearts, Final Fantasy Tactics or Suikoden on PS1.
>>
>>3858695
After getting a little burned out on collecting Nintendo, Sega, and whatnot I turned to DOS and Win95/98 for a nostalgia trip. Built a couple fairly decent machines out of old desktops I found in various thrift markets, even some decent CRT's... And ended up throwing them out because I had to move a long distance.

I was smart enough to keep a few of my boxed games.

Not long ago I got the itch to build another and started to notice the rise in old graphics cards, motherboards and the like. I do blame LGR, and other youtubers, but I still enjoy his content.

Guess I'm stuck with emulation.

and selling my awesome n64 collection in the peak of my discovery of marijuana, still beating myself over that one.
>>
When I was at the ripe age of 10, my neighbor gifted me his Nintendo Power collection. All the issues up until 1999 issues. I ended up throwing all the issues away shortly after because it was taking up too much space. My neighbor was an old gamer grandpa around the late 60s at the time so he's probably dead now. RIP Jerry

People go so nigger tier for just weed
>bru its just weed.. not like im doing heroin
>>
>>3863459
There's not a lot of room to defend myself on this one. I went full nigger, short of stealing it first.

But when a kid discovers something they like they tend to over do it, at least for a little.

Moderation was not in my vocabulary at that time.
>>
get sutte hakkun while it's still """"""""cheap""""""""

>>3858702
lmao. wrong. your job was to rig me to fail as I am now unless I did it YOUR way.
