Are there any alternatives to the NES controller that have an easier to press D-pad?
I've never beaten an NES game (or any pre 5th gen game really) because the D-pads are really hard to press down for me because I have bad arthritis in my left wrist due to a childhood injury.
The DS Lite had the only d-pad I could stand.
NES Max is the easiest answer but it actually does require pressure. You're actually the first person in my life I've seriously recommended the Turbo Touch to. I usually just make fun of it for having like the gayest ad ever.

This is an interesting question. I believe there were one handed controllers but I can't find any proof. What about the nes advantage joystick? Good luck

ASCII made two different one handed NES controllers both called the "Stick L5". I guess OP did say it was only his left hand.
You've got two options, as far as I can tell.

is it possible your NES controller is just blown out and replacing the pads or something would fix the issue? i hate how "mushy" my old pads, or even new ds3/4 d-pads feel, but i bought a new buffalo usb snes pad that feels almost as good as my favorite, the psp d-pad
