I'm having a party soon, and I thought it'd be fun to have background music where a good chunk of it was classic video game music soundtracks, or just good pieces of music, and I knew you guys were the ones to go to for advice.
Pic related, I've already downloaded it and the other two games
Golden axe nigga, keep the mega drive theme

Contra port for NES. The instrumentation on that one makes the melodies pop more than the arcade music.
Forget about video game music dude, if you're throwing a party you should put on some good party music, not nerdy shit.

Or you could also go for the Xenon 2 version, but this sounds a bit better as far as I'm concerned

OP here, the people I'm inviting are (mostly) all gigantic nerds who won't give a shit about dance music. I'm using instrumental music because my literal autism would just make me focus on the song instead of what my guests are saying, which would make me a pretty bad host imo. Also, one of my guests had a birthday party last year where the background music included stuff from Halo, Starship Troopers 3 and Predator: the Musical

Don't
You could pretty easily string together a playlist from OCRemix's directory. Fleshed out (and more accessible, which is good for parties) remixes of whatever. It's just a little hit and miss, so go through and review and download what you'll need - or just throw on a YouTube OCRemix playlist, there are plenty for most retro games. If you're gonna be playing retro music for people, I'd go the accessibility route this way. People get turned away from scratchy 8bit sounds, even if you personally think it sounds good. Lotta the OCRemix stuff is EDM which anyone likes nowadays.
