are there any non english speakers here like me?
when i was young me and my friends could read a game title.actully,no one did.even the game sellers.they always came up with names in our native language based on the game.which they translate to something bizzare if you translate them back to english.
even know if you ask an adult non gamer person if they ever played mario on nes they say they never was.but if you ask about "mushroom eater man"they tell youall about it.
so is this thing happened only in my country?or not?
here's a list of games i could remember
>mario=mushroom eater man
>streets of rage= rebellion in the city
>super star soccer delux=narrator's football!
>sonic 2=foxy sonic
>tecmo cup=captain tsubasa!
>primal rage=animalistic mortal kombat!
>shadow dancer=doggy shinobi!!!
>flicky=chicken!!

Those really aren't that bizarre but it is interesting that your language has a word for mushroom eater.
>amputee shotgun gangbang boy 2

Russian here. Don't recall any names like that. There were short/diminutive names for some games, like "Finalka" for Final Fantasy or "Castla" for Castlevania. The only new names I remember were the fucked up "official" Dendy titles.
But while we're at it, I have a huge pet peeve with our genre monickers. Or more like, with people who ALWAYS use diminutive forms for them. Like, you know, "fighties", "racies", "shooties" and so on. For fuck's sake.
Oh, and one more thing, many people obviously mispronounce English words and names, like "Soob-Zehro" and so on. But my worst nightmare was one dude calling Akuma "Akeema". It still sounds like nails on chalkboard to me. I still can't get over it 10 years later.
>>3835951
hahaha damn i think i peed a lil
>>3835963
op here
we went beyond that mispronounce!
in mortal kombat for example:
>kung lao= hatman
>liu kang=bruce lee
>jhonney cage=Arnold [terminator refrence!]
Let me see...
Congo's Caper=Monkey Boy
Most Beat 'em ups=Street Fight
Guitar Hero=Guitar player
CT Special Forces=Little soldiers
Einhander=Little ship
All I can remember for now.

OP, just out of curiosity, what nationality/language are we talking here?
>>3838875
Sounds like he was completely unfamiliar with the Latin alphabet, so either Eastern Europe, the Middle East, or Southeast Asia."
>>3839138
You don't think he might have just been unable to make sense of English pronunciation and words? I mean, I know the Roman alphabet, but if I saw something titled, say, "Príomhleathanach" or "Feidhmeacha" I would have a. very little clue how to pronounce it due to unfamiliarity with the orthographic conventions, and b. a hard time remembering it because the word itself is gibberish to me.
>>3839168
Not the guy you're replying to but no I don't think so. In fact I know that's not the case. Because I know a bit of OPs language. My mom is fluent.
Fucking russians
They are awesome
>>3839194
So you know what OP's language is? What is it?
I had a Micro Genius growing up in Poland. But from what he said in OP it didn't sound like anything Polish. So yeah, he's probably Russian.
>>3839138
Confirmed for Russian. Poland uses latin alphabet.

This pic is awesome. I'm a little jealous i never had a Quake 3 lan party with a bunch of pale nerds.
>>3839168
He could have made out "Mah-ree-oh" or "tek-mo kup." None of the words are very long even if the titles are lengthly. I'm starting to think he's from Cambodia or something because not even the adults could make it out.

I call Borderlands and Destiny "looty-shooties."

Game like Castlevania was pronounced

I discovered the meanings of sentences like :

Also rpgs like secret of mana on snes were unplayable because we couldn't read the text
Same for lyrics in music
It's really nice to finally understand the meaning of a song you played 1000 times just because it sound good and find out it also mean something

Also, normalfags used to call DDR the "Baila" for some unknown reason
>>3848360

>>3848360
Well, "baila" is Spanish for "dance", so that probably has something to do with it.
