I've played that game many times. Long time since I don't play though so I can't remember really specific details; still, it's one of my favourites. I killed him once if I recall, but just to fuck with the game cos I remember the man is "supposed" to escape.

Most fun and immersive campaigns were probably one with a female bard and another with male necro, both humans... I also recall a fun sorc campaign, male elf.

Favourite NPCs is probably Korgan, he's a fucking beast tanking. I always was more inclined in using parties where the characters were only one class, specialised in their craft. Whenever I played evil party Vic, Korgan and Edwin, for example.

it seems rushed and it's basically a platform for high level char boss fights, that's how I feel it. Also I always left watchers keep for ToB, to make it feel a bit longer.

Of all the CRPGs in existence, Baldur's Gate is hardly that good. The game places a lot more emphasis on plot than gameplay elements. Unfortunately, the writing sucks.

Arx Fatalis and Morrowind would be much better candidates for me, although Morrowind could certainly do without the pseudo-THAC0 backend.

I 'get' OP. There's playing a game and not really seeing the sights and just rushing it to see the ending. Or you can take it slow and enjoy it and savour it in small chunks and most good RPGs or adventures are like that.

If you find yourself rushing a game it's usually because it's shit even though you try to convince yourself otherwise.

the original isn't real DnD either, none of the games are, they give you too many arrows of face-melting and mage-trolling, overpowered artifacts lying everywhere and a surplus of cheese mechanics and broken rules under the hood, it's too easy unless you legitimately aren't familiar enough with ADnD to know what you're doing. a real campaign has many more planned encounters and a great component of the XP awarded for accomplishments rather than kills

after applying the modern mods, you can make it play a lot more like real DnD in a tactical sense, and if you want to you can make it even harder.

Morrowind's writing isn't particularly great. The game has no personality whatsoever. Every single character spews identical walls of copy & pasted text. Yes, that's a slight exaggeration, but there are no real *personalities* in the game, just stock paragraphs, modifiers, and contextual alterations. Same with all Bethesda's very overrated titles desu

I wanted to try and find a "perfect" route through the game whereby I could complete every possible side quest, see every possible line of dialogue, let every party member's character arc play out (where they have one) finish at least one romance and do all of the above with zero bystander fatalities. And no cheats. So as you can imagine there was a fair bit of saving and reloading. That was my "metagame".

I'm gonna start BG2 with difficulty mods and I wanna roll a small custom party of 4 characters for faster levelling and bette equipment spread. What would be a good 4-party makeup?
