It was a fairly popular and advanced arcade game in the late 80s, a mediocre port of which was successfully leveraged as the original Genesis pack in before Sonic came along. Between these two factors its place in gaming history was assured.

Wonder Boy III would have been a much better choice IMHO but I guess it wasn't NINTENDON'T enough

The 3DS version with the random monster feature makes it a little more interesting.

Altered Beast is the NES Donkey Kong, NES Pacman and Pilotwings of Sega Genesis imo: Something very basic or bad by today's standards that showed what the system could do back in the day. Same thing for Golden Axe as well.

It's not a bad game. But it had more impact on the Genesis. Think about it, for years your playing Super Mario or Mega Man or whatever on the NES and the suddenly BAM! Christmas morning your playing Altered Beast. The graphics were mind blowing! Arcade graphic at home! Scrolling screens, voices, stereo sound, etc. You just had to be there. It's like your parents trying to describe the first time they saw a color TV, you'll just never get it.

But yeah, the combo of a literally white bald guy with "Welcome to you[r] doom!" certainly seems like more than a coincidence. Maybe a quote not as memed as "Rise from your grave," but anyone who actually played the game is likely to remember "Welcome to your doom."

I remember altered beast for being ridicolousy cheese and making me laugh my ass off when my friend brought it home along his megadrive. Then, the game it's quite OK especially with 2 players. I later found out it was a launch title and that made everything funnier.

Frisky Dingo is probably the weakest comedically but it's also the peak of "lolsorandum". All the shows are so alike and yet distinctly different that all fans like all the shows but also have their personal favorite - although Archer has a lot of new fans that wouldn't necessarily enjoy the other shows.

I've not watched a whole lot of Archer, but I did like it, though probably not as much as I liked Frisky Dingo.

I like the music and atmosphere. Getting kicked all over as the guy kind of sucks, but it's fun playing as the beast character. You get super over powered and can wreck all the enemies with ease. The boss battles are fun too.
