People complaining about framerates probably didn't played a snes fighting game back in the 90's. This is what a snes fighting game is supposed to run. With a few exceptions like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and some Snk ports, most of the fighting games was like this and we had fun playing it anyway. I think this game looks great and I can't wait to put my hands on one of these cartridges.

This was mentioned some time ago here. It's a game by former SNK employees. It seems like an OK-ish fighter, better than your usual doujin I guess.
But SNES is not the greatest choice for a fighting game really, especially for inexperienced devs. I'm not sure anyone could approach the level of Gundam Wing, as it was pretty much the peak of SNES fighters without special chips, released late in system's life cycle.
The character designs are pretty lame though, IMO… That werewolf screams Jon Tolbain.

The Genesis was decent for fighters if you had a 6 button pad, but really both 16 bit systems weren't quite enough to really make fighters shine. This game OP posted looks like a total waste of development time. It reeks of a game that was never going to be stellar so they shoved it onto old hardware in the hopes that nostalgia will cover up it's mediocrity.

Endless Duel was amazing and on SNES, and it's predecessor, Power Rangers Fighting Edition was also pretty nice.

Anyway, I don't get the hate for this new game. Sure it could be better on the Neo Geo, it could also be better on a modern PC, but the point is that the SNES, a /vr/ console, is getting a new fighting game, and although it doesn't look as good as Natsume stuff like Endless Duel, it still looks decent enough. I mean, if you're going to complain about graphics on /vr/, I don't see the point on being here to begin with, this board is for enthusiast of old systems and games, including old graphics. Has anyone actually played it or some demo yet?

Mainly because of the multiple CPUs. It's not like modern multi-threaded programming, either. It's up to the developer to make them work. Also, it's one of the first consoles to actually have a framebuffer, but it's kind of weird and primitive. Documentation is also kind of sketchy.

I'm not like a pro-32X dev so I don't know all the details, but there's a reason there's so little homebrew for it and what is out there is little more than demos.

The frame rate of the game is just your average SNES tier, but the sprites are very well drawn. Like look at >>3829747 , see that sparkle on the left Gundam when it shoots? The palettes, the shading—everything's pretty top notch in the game. IIRC It also uses the transparency for lasers and stuff like that.
To say it's "gimped" is a bit of a stretch. Sure it's not CPS2 or Neo-Geo, but for 4th gen it does a pretty darn good job, IMO. And it actually feels really tight, the hitbox/collision detection is excellent and never did I feel the game was clunky or experienced slowdown.
That said, I totally agree that SNES is an awful choice for making a fighter today, just like Genesis, let alone anything before it.

Which is why it's not really worth playing anymore, along with every other fighter on the system. It's one thing dealing with it when it was a game from that time and they were dealing with the limitations they had. But now making a fighting game with those limitations is just completely pointless.

You can disagree, and more power to you if you find it fun but watching a video of it running was plenty for me to know I had no interest in it.

Well I pretty much agree. After all it's an anime fighter, the balance in it is far from perfect, with one obvious infinite too. You'd be way better off playing other airdashers.
But if we're talking about 4th gen only, I think it's one of the best-looking and and at the same time most advanced games of that console era.
Other SNES fighters aged even worse though, all those SF2WW wannabes specifically.

Anyways as I pretty much said, I never thought 16 bit systems were really powerful enough to do justice to fighters in the first place. And though there are a ton of old games I love, I almost never see the point in making a new game on one of the old systems. It always feels like using the inherent limitations as a crutch to me.

Endless Duel is as good as they come and very impressive for an SNES game but I don't think it holds up very well. Fighters are an odd genre though since many of the retro ones like platformers and shmups have largely died out, fighters have kept going and in my opinion been steadily getting better and better. 16 bit ones just can't hold a candle... for me anyways.
